I have made no bones about it, I love Marvel Cosmic.  I grew up on it and it’s my thing now.  One of the characters in Marvel Cosmic you don’t see enough of in plastic form, Vance Astro / Major Victory.

I’m an eBay shopper.  Once a day I check out anything new in Marvel Universe on eBay just to make sure I don’t miss anything neat, and a few weeks ago, I’m glad I kept up my routine in spite of the major lull in offerings from Hasbro.  I stumbled upon This Vance Astro / Major Victory custom from eBay seller 1andonly5711.

Vance Astro / Major Victory

Packaging

I’m a loose collector, I did not request packaging to be made.  Though, had he made it, I’m sure it would have been awesome.

Paint

The  lines here look nice and clean.  The coat is even and solid which is one of the best compliments you can pay a paint job.  The blue pops and the silver shines.

Articulation

Articulation is not really something I am concerned with in a custom, of all my figures these will be touched and moved the absolute least, and generally that’s not at all anyway.  The custom is built off of the Gladiator base model and he serves the purpose here very well.

Character Likeness

The designer here could have gone quite a few ways.  We have the deep dark blue and white, the Astro with the left chest logo, the Astro with the finer connecting point of silver in the chest, here we have a loose connection of silver on the chest, no logo, and the brighter colored iteration of Astro.  Not my absolute favorite, but I like it well enough and it does the job of representing the character where there was otherwise a hole in the collection.

Accessories

We have a shield taken from one of the myriad of Cap’s out there.  This one features the silver star and inner circle.

Overall

Here we have a well painted custom of a figure that I’m a big fan of.  It’s not my favorite design, but I knew that going in.  Thank you to 1andonly5711 for putting this up and giving me the chance to buy it.  The price was absolutely right, and it fills what I felt was a gaping hole in my collection.

Grade

Displayed but more to the side – Perfect score (4 out of 5)

Rating System: Each figure will be reviewed under the following categories:
Packaging
Paint
Articulation
Accessories
Character Likeness
Overall: Each figure will then be given an overall grade out of 5 levels:
Displayed front and center – Perfect score
Displayed but more to the side – Second best, nothing wrong with that
Displayed somewhere I might see it – Displayed, it’s good, I like it, not as much as others.
Displayed but buried in the back – Not all that great, but no other options for this figure
Stored* – It’s really not worth displaying.
*This will be caveat-ed, if the figure is excellent but is being moved out in favor of a better version of the same character, this will be explained.
