It is with a heavy heart that I bring you this mostly unrelated to anything Comic-related news.  A beloved icon from mine and many other childhoods has passed away today.

The 66 year old Smith was found unresponsive in his home by police and fire officials.  At this time there is no reason to believe that his passing was from anything other than natural causes but an autopsy has yet to be performed.

Smith played for the Colts in two Super Bowls.  After retiring After retiring from pro football in 1975, Smith played small roles on TV series  “Good Times,” “Charlie’s Angels” and “Semi-Tough,”.  He then landed his most memorable role as as Lt. Moses Hightower in the first “Police Academy” movie in 1984. He went on to reprise the role in Police Academy 2-6.  Who can forget Badula!?

Smith was born on February 28, 1945, in Beaumont Texas. His father was a high school football coach and his mother had earned two college degrees.
