NYCC 2011 is definitely off to a great start.  Today was a day filled with lots of panels and Marvel: The Digital House of Ideas was my first.  We are going to keep it to just the highlights here:

  • Showed Marvel Event Apps: Notifications, News, Schedule of Events and Live Video (Cell service is non existent at the show so pretty useless)
  • For NYCC 2011 attendees only: Pay for an annual subscription of Marvel Digital Unlimited Comics (MDUC) and get an exclusive Marvel Universe Victor Von Doom figure with Doom unmasked and Infinity Gauntlet or last years 2010 NYCC Exclusive X-Force Archangel
  • Marvel Digital Comics app now available on Android phones
  • New Digital Copy program announced with Avenging Spider-Man #1: Buy print copy and receive a code for a free digital copy
  • Program for this book only and if it is successful will be part of all future $3.99 comic books
  • Avengers Trailers breaks the record for views on iTunes this week
  • Marvel animation available on Netflix streaming services including Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, 90’s X-Men and much more.
  • When asked if the MDUC subscription content would also be available on the mobile apps available GM of Digital Media Peter Phillips said, “it is something we are exploring and that you will probably see in the future.”
  • When asked if Marvel will ever move to just digital comics Senior Vice President of Sales and Circulation David Gabriel said, “You won’t see digital comics without print comics.  Print comics will not die. Based on our business model it makes no sense not to have print.”

Again, just a few highlights of this panel, but some good nuggets of knowledge.  Check out a few pics from the panel:
