To say that Hasbro has been taking a beating since the start of SDCC is a bit of an understatement.

Since the beginning of SDCC Marvel Universe and Marvel Legends collectors have received the following 2 pieces of news:

1. Marvel Universe will be discontinued as we know it.  So to, the Avengers Assemble line will end and both will be merged into a new line.  So far what we have been told is that the line will be launched as “The Avengers” toy line.  This is being done in an effort to circumvent buyer stigma (not me and you, Toys R Us and Walmart, etc…).  We have word that articulation and detail will remain the same.  There are however doubters out there.  Hasbro doesn’t seem worried and everyone seems to be very positive, so that is good news and my fingers are crossed.  Time will tell one way or the other.  Time to a collector is one of the absolute worst things…ever.

2. Marvel Legends will be discontinued as we know it.  The Legends scale figures will continue on as pieces of movie lines (IE – Iron Man Legends).

3.  We will see lines for Thor, The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy in Legends scale.

4. We will see our last wave of Marvel Universe this year.  Some folks are predicting that it will include: (please note, that as far as we know this is totally unconfirmed information and we will provide whatever we can when we have it).

  • Omega Red
  • Aurora
  • North Star
  • Classic Black Knight
  • Nightcrawler (X-Force)

5.  We have confirmation that the lost variants are actually lost.  This includes Luke Cage (white shirt), Black Widow (blonde hair) and Dark Hawk (variant paint job).  These were samples made but never mass produced.  Given only to a handful of Hasbro employees, they are likely to be the most rare of figures if ever found in the wild.  That said, don’t expect to ever find them in the wild.

Personally, I’m hopeful at the above news.  While the Avengers Assemble line has shown limited articulation, it has also shown that they aren’t afraid of new characters (Leader) (Nick Fury).  Hasbro has grown as a company over the years, we have GI Joe and Star Wars lines to show us that fact.  Working with Marvel is generally equal to being able to print money and when you have that place to start, it’s a matter of finding the right way to do it.  I’m still on board, MUReview is still on board and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the week holds.

All that said…we have managed to scare up a few images to share with you from around the web and Facebook.  Thanks to the Internet and Facebook’s Make Mine Marvel Group for these images.

Pictured below are multiple diorama shots, images of Black Knight, Omega Red, and what fans are being told are a handful of customs made only for these dioramas.
