Marvel Legends Deadpool Rainbow Squad 3.75
It’s been a little while since this Deadpool Rainbow Squad was announced, and I’d be lying if I didn’t hear rumblings that folks were worried it had been canceled.  Being honest though, I never lost faith, I knew if we got any 3.75″ Marvel figures this year, this set, minimally would be on the list.  Low and behold, and unfortunately with not a whole lot of fan fare, it popped up on Amazon for about $64.99 with Free Prime Shipping!  But…what’s in the box?  A whole lot of Deadpool!  …or is it?

The Deadpools

This is going to be a review of a different color really.  The set is unique in that, while it’s representative of 5 different characters, at it’s heart, this is one figure in 5 different colors.  Is it a good figure in 5 different colors?

  • Yes. It’s Deadpool.
  • Classic Marvel Universe style figure buck, torso articulation, shoulders, elbows, knees, ball and socket hips.  Really the only missing articulation here is ankle rockers and calf cuts.
  • Each figure comes with two katana, one hand gun, and a knife.
  • Each figure comes with a place to store each weapon, back sheaths for the swords, back belt knife holster, hip gun holster.  All weapons fit very well.
  • Speaking of fit well.  Each figure’s right hand is throwing up the thumb and pinky, but mid fingers are curled and can hold gun, knife or sword.  Left hand is traditional kung-fu / weapon grip.
  • While each figure is a different base color, the holster is leather / brown in color.
  • The paint on each figure is nice and clean, solid lines, very sharp.
  • Black sections – none more black.
  • Color sections are bright and really nice looking.
  • The packaging looks great, simple front, great group shot on the back, and the group shot features the squad un-masked, and really this becomes the only knock for me, on the whole set.
  • There is so much empty space inside that box, plenty of space to include an alternate head, unmasked for each figure.  That woulda been cool.  Also, tacos, or chimichangas.

Blue – Fool Killer

  • He’s blue.

Purple – Terror

  • He’s purple.

Red – Deadpool

  • He’s red.

Green – Solo

  • He’s green.

Yellow – Slapstick

  • He’s yellow.

The rest

Every release is bitter sweet in Marvel 3.75″.  This is a line that started this website.  It’s a line that really matured me into an adult collector of stuff.  I guess if you are my wife, this line is awful and the bane of your existence….but for me and fans of the line, it’s the pinnacle, the best!  It’s one of the best 3.75″ treatments of the source material.  Hasbro has done an outstanding job of providing a dizzying roster of A list characters, deep cuts, and everything in between.  The bitter sweet is that clearly, by rumor or by basic observation, this line is in a wind down.  As far as Marvel specific / only figures, this is the only set on the schedule for 2018.  Forget bittersweet.  It’s kind of heartbreaking.  But just like Charlie giving back his Everlasting Gobstopper to Willy Wonka at the end of the movie,  we have a ray of hope.  Hasbro, as of Toy Fair 2018 showed off their coming line of 3.75″ Marvel / videogame figures featuring Spider-Man, Mr. Negative, Civil Warrior, Black Widow, The Collector, Ryu, and maybe a few more.  What about after that?  Who knows?  To my knowledge, there is nothing on the slate.  I’m not ready to decry the end of the line though, and here is why.  The collectors are still out there.  If there is money to be made from creating 3.75″ figures, we can count on getting more 3.75″ figures….maybe not immediately, but sooner than later I’m sure.  Also, these things go in cycles, right?  Remember when Marvel Legends 6″ went away?  It’s hard to remember, given the absolutely massive roster fans are getting on store shelves between 2017 and 2018 Marvel Legends lines, but there was a solid year, two? three? where the line was formally done.  Now it’s back better than ever.  I know it’s hard to be patient, but after you grab this set and the Marvel video game figures in 2018, it’s all you have if you want more 3.75″ figures.  Speak with your wallet, go buy this set.  Go grab the Marvel gaming sets…shoot Hasbro an email, tell them you love 3.75″!
