From StarNews Online Iron Man 3 begins filming at Wilmington’s EUE/Screen Gems Studios on Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the movie.
The film, a Marvel Studios/Disney production, opened offices at the studios in January.
The production, which is expected to have a budget upwards of $200 million, will create 550 “high-quality, well-paying jobs” and 1,000 talent opportunities, according to the N.C. Governor’s Office.
In April, thousands of people turned out for an extras casting call at Independence Mall for “Caged Heat,” a title known as one of the code names for “Iron Man 3.”
Earlier this month, “Iron Works Productions” submitted a filming permit application to the City of Wilmington on behalf of the film “Caged” for permission to close down Chestnut Street between 2nd and 3rd streets from 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29.
Two cast members, about 20 extras and 150 crew members will film an office scene at Cape Fear Club at 206 Chestnut St., according to the permit application.
“Iron Man 3″ stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle. Sir Ben Kingsley is reportedly in talks to play a villain in the film, however he may not be the primary evil-doer, according to Hollywood trade magazines.
James Badge Dale, Rebecca Hall and Guy Pearce also have been in talks to join the production, though it is unclear what roles they would play.
Shane Black takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Black’s credits include 2005′s “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” which also starred Robert Downey Jr.
The film is set for release in May 2013.
