Magic Box: Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 2 Amiibos for Nintendo Switch

Magic Box: Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 2 Amiibos for Nintendo Switch

The litlgeeks played the bananas out of Splatoon for Wii U.  They loved nothing more than running around levels and making a paint splat mess…which, as a parent works out pretty well.  On screen mess is way better than off screen mess!  Now, the Nintendo Switch is out, and with it, a slew of amazing new Nintendo games, Zelda Breath of the Wild, 1 2 Switch, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and today, we are going to have a look at the highly anticipated to the sequel of one of the litlgeeks favorite Wii U games, Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch.

What to Expect

Splatoon 2 improves on the formula of Splatoon in pretty much every way, improved visuals, more music, a focus on gear and upgrades, great new levels.  But there ish one major and heartbreaking exception, there is still no split screen multiplayer.  In a house with two litlbrothers, being able to sit on the couch next to each other and play together without having to buy a whole second Switch is really a necessary thing for the litlgeeks!  That said, there are a ton of great multiplayer options here and with the introduction of Salmon Run, Splatoon 2 is a must play!

Controls:

  • Two Joy-Cons in the controller grip
  • Two Joy-Cons connected to the Switch
  • Pro Controller
  • Motion controls are included, you can tilt your Joy-Cons or Pro Controller to aim and look!

Modes:

  • Single Player –  32 missions, paint the town and save the world!
  • Multi-player- Get online and splat it out!
    • Turf War – Cover the most of the map to win!
    • Tower Control – Ride a moving tower!  Cover the board and knock out your enemies! You must get to level 10 to unlock this mode!
    • Rain Maker – Use an amazing new weapon that provides a ton of coverage to win your battles! You must get to level 10 to unlock this mode!
    • Splat Zones – Battle for control over specific zones. You must get to level 10 to unlock this mode!
    • Salmon Run – Team up with friends to fight progressively harder waves of enemies! (This gets tricky when you have less than four on your team!).  Play any time locally, but timed online play.
    • Ranked Battles – Rank up!
    • League Battles – Rank up to B- in ranked battles to get in on league action!

More:

  • Splatoon features a ton of new and balanced weapons to have a Splat with.
  • Splatoon 2 works with all of the great Splatoon Amiibos out there, including a new Inkling Boy, Girl and Squid just for Splatoon 2! Each Amiibo unlocks gear, and you can save your Inkling to your Amiibo and take it anywhere!

What’s Really Important To Know About Splatoon 2

  • It is gorgeous.  Character animations, the texture of paint, this game is pure art and it’s beautiful.
  • Gameplay is smooth and fun.  The litlgeeks love to use the motion controls, but I have to turn them off because I’m jumpy in my old age and that translating to screen makes me a little woozy.
  • Outfitting your Splat is fun and rewarding!
  • The Amiibos are all beautifully designed and are a great addition to the core experience of Splatoon 2!

The litlgeeks have a blast every time they sit down to play Splatoon 2.  They love using the beautiful and colorful Amiibos, and they love splatting paint everywhere!  While their greatest Splatoon wish went unfulfilled this go round (no local split screen multiplayer), they still really love the game and spending  hours playing it.  Per the video, they give it 2, or 14,000 thumbs up.  Whichever comes first.  Splatoon 2 is an improvement on Splatoon in every way really, it looks beautiful, it plays smooth, getting into and out of online matches is easy enough for a 7 year old to do it.  Salmon Run is a great time!  If you have a Switch, you’ll want to pick up Splatoon 2! You can pick up Splatoon 2 here!

ARMS for Nintendo Switch

ARMS for Nintendo Switch

When Nintendo reached out to litlgeeks and MUReview a few weeks back with an offer to check out their upcoming ARMS game for the Nintendo Switch, we jumped at the chance!  We’ve been huge Nintendo fans since the very beginning, and our Nintendo Switch is on pretty much constantly.  We had a quick preview of ARMS, which you can check out HERE.  For now though, we want to go into a little bit more detail about the game, it’s modes, and all the different kinds of fun you can have with it!! So sit back, relax, and watch the litlgeeks work, or if you want to read a little more about it, keep on scrolling past the video for a brief summary of the modes and stuff you can do and our overall thoughts about the game. Remember everyone! ARMS is out for the Nintendo Switch June 16th!!

What to Expect

Arms at it’s core is a boxing game.  A boxing game with some major springy twists!

  • The Pro Controller (recommended for competitive online matches for more precise real time controls)
  • Two Joy-Cons connected to the Switch

Modes:

  • Grand Prix – This arcade mode offers you 10 fights, mixing in mini games like Basketball, Volley Ball and Target breaking.  You can play with one or two players.  If you go two players, each match becomes 2 on 2.  You must play through this mode on level 4 difficulty or above to unlock Ranked online battles.  Consider Grand Prix your story mode, there are even boss fights!
  • Versus – Versus has a ton of fun fighting options here!
    • Fight – One on one fight with power ups and healing pickups!
    • Team Fight – It’s two on two in this battle mode.
    • V-Ball – It’s volleyball, with an explosive ball, get it on the other side of the court away from your team!

    • Skillshot – Break as many targets as possible using the versatile powers of ARMS.
    • 1-on-100 – Yep, beat 100!

The Fighters and the Arms:

  • Nintendo brings us a roster of 10 colorfully designed, incredibly creative characters to choose from, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and abilities.

litldecision

The litlgeeks and MUReview have been playing ARMS since the review code showed up a few weeks ago.  We love the game, and getting to play every day is a treat.  There is way more jumping involved than they should be doing at all, but it’s still very funny to watch.  There is a ton of depth to the game to keep them coming back between different opponents, ARMS, levels and minigames.  While the online component isn’t something our litlgeeks are truly ready to compete in, they are enjoying it to the fullest under close supervision.  This is the most important part though, the litlgeeks are litlboys.  We are parents.  There are almost no two litlboys as brothers in the world that don’t want to hit each other once in a while, whether in fun or frustration.  A parents challenge is to not let that happen.  Enter ARMS.  Now we can let it happen and let them have fun with it!  No one gets hurt, ARMS is only a few weeks old in our house and it is already settling arguments without a push, punch, or brotherly slap!  The game is a ton of fun for one, and easily twice that for two. It’s rated E for everyone, you shouldn’t think twice about picking this up if you have a Nintendo Switch!  The litlgeeks give it their two thumbs up honor!

Syberia 3

Syberia 3

Syberia 3 – PS4

Syberia 3 showed up on the shores of MUReview.net this week and we got a chance to check it out.  We’d like to thank Microids for sending it to us for free for review.  Syberia 3 is, if you can believe it, the third game in the Syberia series.  The last game in the series, Syberia 2 was released in 2004, so it’s been a while.  This entry in the series, 3, was originally slated for release in 2010.  So after at least 7 years in the oven, let’s see how the series holds up!  MUReview performed this review against the Playstation 4 version of the game.

The Good

  • Engrossing, compelling story line.
  • Creative, fun, and engaging puzzles.
  • Solid graphics throughout the game, crisp, sharp.
  • Functional intuitive control scheme.
  • The color palate and tone of the visuals in the game capture the intended mood of each scene and environment very well.
  • When voice acting is good, it’s very, very good.

The Bad

  • The biggest hindrance for me in this game is that you begin the game with little to no reference to story prior to this game (Syberia, Syberia 2).  I had to dig and do my own research on the Internet.
  • The game does have it’s share of bugs.  Lip sync at times is off putting.  Frame rate problems, a few rough clicks / target areas.
  • When voice acting is bad, it’s pretty rough.

The rest

Syberia 3 is just getting started for me.   I look forward to spending more time with it and getting through all of the games intricate puzzles.  That stated, this review encompasses general feel of the game, play-ability, surface features.  I avoided a full playthrough for a few reasons, spoiling the game for you chief among those reasons.  If I know what’s going to happen I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut!  That said, we have had a good time so far with Syberia 3 despite it’s hiccups and we think you will enjoy it too…so much so, that we are going to give away a copy! Keep reading!

Availability

Syberia 3 is out now for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.  What’s really cool though, is that MUReview will be giving a copy away for either Xbox One or PS4.  Check out the giveaway here!!
