Toy Fair 2018: Round Table with Kastor’s Korner and The Newsbox

Going to Toy Fair is a lot of work, but it’s also a lot of fun. We get to see great toys, and we get to share them with you.  But one of my favorite parts of Toy Fair is getting to see old friends, and sometimes, we even get to sit at a table, round, or otherwise, with them, and talk about stuff.

I will admit to you now, the table we sat at, it was not round.  It was square, but we sat nonetheless, and we discussed some of our favorite stuff at Toy Fair, and now, I’m sharing that with you…kinda.  You have to click the link below, because I don’t have the audio file, or the knowledge of how to steal it from Kastor’s Korner…so, click the link, listen to us talk, enjoy.  Oh wait! Who did we talk to?

Jesse (The Newsbox) and Khalil (Kastors Korner)

Ok, now go listen.

Toy Fair 2018: Diamond Select Toys

Toy Fair 2018: Diamond Select Toys

Toy Fair Mega Post

One of our favorite booths to visit at Toy Fair has always been Diamond Select Toys.  We get the honor of being able to work with them all year, so any chance we get for some face time, and to see their new products before we have a chance to review them is great for us.  So thank you to Zach from DST for walking us through, and for letting us take pictures of just about everything!  Let’s see what’s coming from Diamond Select Toys in 2018!

DC | Ghostbusters | Marvel | Nightmare Before Christmas | Pacific Rim | Video Games

DC

Statues, Vinimates, and busts in 2018!  Hal Green Lantern, a jaw dropping Supergirl, the Gallery series is exploding with DC goodies in 2018!  The Vinimates roster is also expanding with must haves!

Ghostbusters

Vigo, Vigo, Vigo!! Plus! The Real Ghostbusters!

Marvel

Marvel gets a ton of love from DST, and while folks my panic about the lack of new Minimates, hang tight, I’m hopeful and certain there are more to come!  For now though, Gallery, Premiere, even Select (NEW BEAST!!) get a ton of action.  This is the first time I’ve seen that beautiful Thanos, the trio of Domino, Deadpool, and Cable look amazing together, Dazzler, Savage Land Rogue, X-23 Wolverine, there is so much to be excited about!

Nightmare Before Christmas

Nightmare Before Christmas gets some beautiful new dolls to celebrate another anniversary, as well as more Select scale figures that we haven’t seen before!

Pacific Rim

I can’t wait for this movie, because I crave context for these beautiful toys.

Video Games

DST introduced Kingdom Hearts fun late last year, this year, we get more, and we get some Sonic the Hedgehog action that looks absolutely outstanding, between statues and Minimates.  Also…I get some Tron stuff…so ..win, win, win!

Toy Fair 2018: DC Collectibles

Toy Fair Mega Post

DC Collectibles is always one of my most looked forward to booths for Toy Fair. They always have iconic DC characters presented in a way that few others capture.  This year, the focus was on brilliant updates to their statue line, a new iteration of Action Figures in DC Essentials, as well as Watchmen, and they showed off some beautiful prop replicas.  Thank you to DC Collectibles for taking the time to walk us through the booth, and for the amazing, exclusive parting gift that we can’t wait to review for everyone here at MUReview!

Action Figures | Replicas | Statues

Action Figures

Batman the Animated Series gets some more figure love, the Watchman are coming out in scale with the new DC Essentials figures (6-7″), and of course, DC Essentials is looking to launch in 2018 with a stellar cast of figures featuring Batman, Deathstroke and more!

Replicas

Joker’s cane, Two Face’s coin, and the most disturbing Joker bust I’ve ever seen. Yes please!

Statues

The Teen Titans get a statue series to mirror one of their most iconic book covers.  Black Lightening joins the DC Collectibles cast, so much more!  So many more gorgeous pieces of art!

Toy Fair 2018: Mattel Collector Event

Toy Fair 2018: Mattel Collector Event

Toy Fair Mega Post

Mattel threw their annual Toy Fair Collector event at Toy Fair 2018.  The gathering where media, bloggers, and VIP collectors get access to some of the hottest collectibles that Mattel is going to offer for the year.  This year, like every other year, they did not disappoint.  Showing off new figures from DC, WWE, new Imaginext sets for both DC and Jurassic World.  So much to see, let’s dive in!

DC | Hotwheels | Jurassic World | Mecard | Mega Construx | Minecraft | WWE | The Rest

DC

Mattel’s main DC action figure line gets some love this year with Lex Luthor Superman, Injustice Superman, Clay Face, Batwoman, Green Lantern, Two Face and more!  Imaginext gets a new Bat Cave playset.  We get a 90’s TV series Flash!  Even some Keaton era Batman love.  Check it out!

Hot Wheels

I absolutely.  Must. Have. The Infinity Gauntlet car.  There is no question of this, and it will be a chase…so that’s gonna make it tricky.

Jurassic World

Every year, one property is prevalent.  In years past, it was Trolls, it was Minions, it was Disney.  This year.  Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom has taken over Toy Fair.  Mattel is bringing it for the license in a big way with figures, vehicles, dinosaurs, even ride ons (stay tuned for pictures of that!).

Mecard

I had no idea what Mecard was when I saw them on the shelves at this point.  Now I know, it’s an action game featuring cars that convert into robot type creatures when they roll over a card.  The card they hit has point value.  I’ve got some really cool video of the game in action, so again, stay tuned!

Mega Construx

At the collector event we got a nice appetite whetting for Mega Construx, massive Halo ship, check.  Tons of great Mega Construx action figures to make us remember our child hood (He-Man!) check!

Minecraft

Mattle is bringing out some more Minecraft fun in 2018!

WWE

In 2018, we get Andre the Giant.  more John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, so many more greats!

The Rest

Lara Croft is getting her own figure, I’m not sure, but it looks like we are getting an all red, Imaginext Mega Zord…WANT!

Toy Fair 2018: Mezco

Toy Fair Mega Post

Let me start by saying thank you to the fine folks at Mezco for having MUReview.net out to their special press event at their booth on the show floor of Toy Fair 2018.  I’ve long considered Mezco a friend of our site, they always include us, even if we weren’t able to make it the first few times they invited us.  In fact, I think it happened once or twice I couldn’t make the event.  In years prior, Mezco would hold their press event a week or two in advance of Toy Fair at their offices in Long Island City, NY.  Location wise, incredibly convenient as we here at MUReview.net live on Long Island (it’s a train ride from here to there).  Unfortunately, we also have a day job so getting time off for Toy Fair, and in advance of Toy Fair, that was a bit of a trick.  I’m babbling.  This year, instead of off site and in advance of Toy Fair, Mezco held their event on site during Toy Fair.  Pros – I was already there.  Cons – Man, Mezco had it right, getting to see their stuff not behind the glass at their off site does make a big difference, but either way, and every time, I’m grateful to be included. More, I’m grateful to be able to share with you, the amazing stuff that Mezco had on display, and to receive the amazing stuff that Mezco was generous beyond words to share with me.

One:12 Comics | One:12 Non-Comics | Horror / Living Dead Dolls | Mez-Itz | Kong | Two More Things

One:12 Comics

Well, this comes a few days after Mezco held their event so I’m not going to drop your jaw with the reveals, they are already out in the universe, so you’ll just get my take on them, and then I’ll show you pictures.

  • Cyclops – Only just last week someone was showing off a really nice custom of a One:12 Cyclops, and I thought man…they really should make that.  And they did…so I bet the guy that made the custom face palmed a little bit, but honestly, the rest of us get this amazing Jim Lee era Cyclops treat!  There is some buzz about the coloring of his suit being a little off.  For me, he’s blue, he’s yellow, he’s got great hair and a visor.  This is my Cyclops. Thank you Mezco!
  • Blade – Is that Wesley Snipes? That’s Wesley Snipes!
  • Cable – Dude’s bad ass and has a metal arm, what else do you need?  Right, this figure, when it drops, you’ll have to buy it.
  • Home Made Suit Spidey – This is Spidey in one of his most humble appearances, and we are lucky to have the chance to bring him home!
  • Hela – Don’t sleep on Hela, this is a stunning figure based on Cate Blanchett’s flawless portrayal in Thor Ragnarok.  She’s going to fit nicely between Thor and Hulk.
  • Sovereign Knight Batman – This is the Batman many have been waiting for.  I want him, you want him.  Can I get a blue and yellow variant just cuz?
  • John Stewart Green Lantern – Giving us a Green Lantern fills a big gap on many shelves at this point.  Flash, Bats, Supes, GL is the obvious next choice.  I love the design choices on Stewart, I also can’t wait for a Hal version (I grew up Super Friends).

More on display than just the above, check out the images, but before you do, I have some questions.

  • We are getting a Darkseid.  When do we get a Thanos?  Will it be a movie Thanos?  Or will it be the real deal comic version, and will he have an Infinity Gauntlet?
  • I am sure the answer is yes, but do we get an un-helmed head of Hela?
  • The Darkseid card says release is Holiday 2018.  For real, can I just get that now?

One:12 Non Comics

John Wick gets a One:12, Clockwork Orange gets a One:12, the four original Ghost Busters, Jason, Michael Meyers, Popeye gets a One:12!  Mezco is extending these brilliantly designed figures to include some of the most beloved licenses in cinema.  Can I get a Neo though?

Horror and Living Dead Dolls

One:12 fans find their way to MUReview.net frequently enough, but they may not know that Mezco has more going on than One:12.  Mezco has a deep and rich history with the Living Dead Dolls, and also in producing some incredible horror licensed figures, dolls, plush, oddities, novelties and more.  Check em out.

Mezitz

Little adorable heroes, that are highly collectible?  I’m still gonna find me that Doctor Fate.  Batman is getting his Mobiles fleshed out in Mezitz style and we get some great new Puzzle Boxes too!

Kong

It’s Kong, and he’s pretty big. He’s also massive, in two of the most beautifully detailed representations of the character, Mezco just kills it Kong style in 2018.

Two More Things

Last year, Mezco sent their press friends home with a goody bag featuring one or the other, Toy Fair Exclusive Punisher, or, I believe it was a Spock, but I didn’t get Spock, I got the Punisher, and you can check out his review here.  The Punisher was one of the earliest figures in my One:12 collection, certainly one who helped me fall down the rabbit hole with Mezco even further.  This year, they gave their media based friends a gift  bag featuring two items.  A Living Dead Doll (Halloween 2017 Sweet Tooth), and what some folks are now selling on eBay for the price of about 4 mortgage payments, a Toy Fair exclusive Ascending Knight Batman.  As folks wait for the vanilla flavored Ascending Knight Batman to hit stores, this exclusive comes to us in black on black on black.  I’d tell you he looks stunning, I’m sure I WILL tell you that, but I haven’t opened mine yet.  I’m firmly committed to completing Toy Fair 2018 coverage before I get back into doing reviews and litlgeeks videos, but there is just a metric ton of coverage.  So between now and when I get the TFX Ascending Knight Batman opened and reviewed, I hope no one tells someone where I live, because these goods are smokin’ hot and in incredibly high demand.  Only Mezco Toy Fair Press Event attendees will have ever gotten their hands on one, and there were probably less than 100 attendees (to be honest, it could have been closer to 50, Mezco keeps a close knit group of friends that I’m honored to be counted among) (also why it’s crazy to think that someone would take a gift from them like that and just flip it on eBay), so for Mezco One:12 collectors, this is some of the rarest of the rare.  Couple that with the fact that One:12 line fans have become absolutely rabid with consuming these incredible figures…sheeeedoggie.  Thank you times a million Mezco for having me down to this event.  Thank you for the incredible parting gifts.  More than anything though, thank you for these amazing figures that you keep producing that I get to review.  I’m psyched for 2018, Iron Man, Black Panther, Darkseid, so many more.  Stay tuned for those reviews as the figures come out, and come on back for a look at the “murder a fool for it” Toy Fair Exclusive Ascending Knight Batman.

Thank you again to the fine folks at Mezco for always including MUReview on all the fun.  Master Drake, Captain Pierre, you guys are the best!  Keep up the good Mez!

Toy Fair 2018: Hasbro Transformers

Toy Fair Mega Post | Hasbro Brand Presentation Live Blog

Hascon 2017 was a bit of a moment for us here at MUReview, and at litlgeeks.  We’ve always had a place in our heart for Transformers, ever since the original G1 TV series that I myself grew up with.  But, when I saw that Rodimus Prime from Power of the Primes in the display case, something tripped in my brain and it’s been all down hill from there…so, …Transformers, yeah.  Hasbro announced a ton of fantastic new bots, let’s have a look.

Generations | Movies | Cyberverse | Clothing and..Records? | Rescue Bots

Generations

We get a Predaking!  We get a Power of the Primes Optimus Primal!  We get a new Transformers Series Trilogy.

Movie Line

Announced at the presentation, a full line of super detailed movie figures from each of the TF live action movies.  These are the best the movie bots have ever looked!

Cyberverse

Yes, I do want a new TV series that looks a lot like G1 for my kids to enjoy, and I want them to have the toys too!  And while yer at it, why don’t you give me fun, but simple transformations with a really cool action mechanism…thanks!

Transformers clothing and Records

Hasbro is releasing Transformers music on Vinyl, so go get that.  You can also up your fashion game with Transformers print clothing.

Rescue Bots

Don’t forget the little guys here either!  Rescue Bots grows and grows with fun little bots!
