Lexus, Marvel unveil Black Panther custom comic book covers

SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2017) — Today, on the brink of the opening of Comic-Con International: San Diego, Lexus and Marvel have announced a collaboration to pair the first-ever 2018 Lexus LC with Marvel’s dynamic Black Panther character in the highly anticipated film, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, slated to hit theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.

http://marvel.com/lexuslc

Directed by Ryan Coogler, and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, the film follows T’Challa, who, after the events of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King.

“Marvel continuously captures audiences through charismatic characters and inspiring stories — the ideal fit for Lexus’ mission to craft amazing, engaging experiences,” said Brian Bolain general manager, Lexus marketing. “And the LC’s aggressive styling, high performance and agile handling are a perfect fit for the Black Panther’s quick, cat-like reflexes and superhuman feats. We’re excited to see the duo in action.”

To accompany the collaboration between Lexus and Marvel, Lexus also teamed with Marvel Custom Solutions to create an original graphic novel, with storytelling driven by famed writer Fabian Nicieza and cover illustrations by emerging graphic artists Scott “Rahzzah” Wilson and Szymon Kudranski. Centered around the balance between human and machine, the comic features the Lexus LC 500 with a new, Wakandan spin and its role in helping the Black Panther defeat a legendary villain.

Lexus and Marvel will celebrate their collaboration during Comic-Con after-hours at an exclusive Black Panther-themed event on Friday, July 21,  with special performances by DJ Lulo Café and a surprise headliner. During the invite-only event, six variant covers for the graphic novel will be revealed to industry guests and comic enthusiasts.

“This campaign clicked from the get-go,” said Mindy Hamilton, Marvel’s SVP of global partnerships. “We have this bold, sophisticated hero stepping into the spotlight for the first time, and it’s been a blast to work with the Lexus team to build out a story that’ll familiarize fans with T’Challa as well as his advanced home nation of Wakanda.”

Lexus’ collaboration with Marvel is being coordinated by Lexus’ multicultural advertising agency, Walton Isaacson.

Ushering in a new era of design and engineering at Lexus, the LC 500 is expressive and stylish, with enhanced dynamic capability and performance. Additional information on the flagship coupe can be found here.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world.  Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty retailers may be included as well.

Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.

The category tables in this press release are ranked by units sold by Diamond to its accounts for the comic books, graphic novels, and books categories and by the dollars invoiced by Diamond for the toys and games categories.

The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition.

Eisner Award-Winning Artist Francesco Francavilla Designs Halloween ComicFest 2017 Commemorative T-Shirt

Eisner Award-Winning Artist Francesco Francavilla Designs Halloween ComicFest 2017 Commemorative T-Shirt

HALLOWEEN COMICFEST
Diamond Comic Distributors is proud to reveal the artwork created by Eisner Award-winning artist Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie, Black Beetle) for the sixth annual Halloween ComicFest (HCF) 2017 on Saturday, October 28. The T-Shirt is featured in the July issue of Diamond’s PREVIEWS catalog and is available for pre-order at comic shops throughout July.

Known for his pulp and retro-inspired style, Francavilla’s artwork is unmistakeable and dares readers to dive into a world gone by. Celebrating six years of Halloween ComicFest, his art for the 2017 HCF Commemorative T-Shirt brings to life the spookiest monsters in history as they ride off to give comics to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

“After the FCBD design I did last year, I was very happy to work with Diamond on another project,” said Francavilla. “When asked to work on a design for Halloween ComicFest, my thoughts went straight to the Addams Family. The family friendly horror take on that series was perfect inspiration for this project. Of course, I had to include most of the horror icons like the Monster, the Vampire, the Mummy, the Bridge, and the Werewolf.”

The HCF 2017 T-Shirt will be available in black in adult sizes Small to XXL (MSRP: $14.99-$17.99), youth sizes Small to Large (MSRP: $11.99), and Women’s V-Neck in sizes Small to XL (MSRP: $14.99-$17.99). The commemorative HCF T-Shirt, plus the complete listing of the HCF 2017 titles, will be available in the July issue of PREVIEWS in comic shops 6/28.
