Mezco One:12 Moon Knight

Mezco One:12 Moon Knight

Mezco One:12 Moon Knight

For better, for worse, or for indifference, when it comes to Marvel, I have a bad habit of gauging an entire figure line based on my two favorite ever, Marvel characters, sometimes a top 5 or so….but the top two have been consistent since they have been favorite.  Nova (Prime, Richard Rider) (who mind you, just ended up in Marvel Contest of Champions mobile game, and for that I’m pretty psyched) (but also mind you, has not yet been made as a One:12 figure), and Moon Knight.  (the shuffling third, fourth, fifth place generally features Thanos, Silver Surfer, Gambit (Gambit coming soon!)).  Now, when I say Moon Knight, I mean the all white clad, caped, cowled, classic sense of the word Moon Knight, for he has seen many iterations, all very cool, but none greater than his classic digs.  And here, today, Mezco takes a swing at Moon Knight, in his classic costume, with some very exceptional upgrades.  Is the figure worth your time?  Absolutely, read this review, look at the pictures at the very least.  Is he worth your money?  If you want to save reading, and just look at the pictures, I’m good with it, and I’ll tell you here, yes.  He’s a must own Mezco One:12 figure, for all the reasons.

The Good

  • One:12 Moon Knight is Moon Knight.  One of my favorite page to plastic interpretations of all time is right here
  • The classic all white costume look is perfectly captured
  • And improved upon even!  The vinyl on vinyl ornamentation on the suit adds such a great layer for both look and feel
  • MK just feels tough, like he could punch you and you’d feel it, even at the 1/12th scale
  • The masked head is loaded with detail, shading, and expression, even though it’s masked
  • The mask up face looks like a real, actual person.  So incredibly lifelike, so rich in depth, from the fold up of the mask to the black eye and scowl I almost want to buy a second figure just so I can display both heads at the same time
  • Exceptional accessories, you have:
    • The crescent
    • 4 sets of hands, grasping, fist, claws out, open
    • Staff
    • Staff split with chains to nunchuks
    • Grappling hook
    • full hood
    • half off hood
    • Flight stand
    • Cape hooks and flight stand attachment
    • Stand
    • Decorated figure base
  • The black and white Moon Knight is an outstanding figure, but the classic all white outfit absolutely takes the cake, he’s amazing!

The Bad

  • A removable cape is the thing I’d ask for because I’m greedy, but it’s really not necessary and I just needed something to put here

The rest

I have as many versions of Moon Knight as I can get my hands on.  I have a Bowen statue.  I have a Diamond Select toys Statue.  I have all of the 3.75″ figures released.  I have all of the 6-inch Marvel Legends figures released.  In that pantheon of awesome, this $80 figure, rates right up there with the multi-hundreds of dollars statues of Moon Knight.  Except where they exceed in museum quality visuals, Mezco adds fun…and let me be clear, the visuals are stunning here on this figure as well, apples and pears at the end of the day though.  If you had to own one Moon Knight figure, this is it.  He ticks all the boxes, touches all the bases, and he does so with exceptional style, flare, pose-ability, and outstanding accessories to boot.  Easy to recommend, really, it demands that I encourage, it’s that good a figure.

Mezco One:12 Cable

Mezco One:12 Cable

Mezco One:12 Cable

One of my favorite Marvel Universe figures was their version of Cable.  I collected at least a few, because, apart from being a fan of the character, I work for a cable company.  The double entendre is not lost on me.  At some point over my career, I paid it forward, giving a cool Cable figure to a friend / departing employee.  So, consider me down one or two…but…not anymore!  Thanks to Mezco’s take on this metal armed time traveler, my office once again has, the exact right amount of Cable, in one of his most awesome forms!

The Good | The Bad | The Rest | Availability | The Pictures

The Good

  • When Mezco pulls out the light up feature, they do it right!  Cable’s eye lights perfectly, as do features on his chest, and I love the way the head nub lights up (under the head)
  • His face sculpt is a thing of beauty.  a ton of detail, and the additional included head too.  Both look great, and are awesome display options enough to make it a hard decision as to which
  • Not just the face, but the hair!  Layers, lines, perfect color
  • Those guns, those beautiful guns.  Massive, and one has two removable / swap-able clips!
  • One of the most satisfying figure features for me, holsters.  He’s got one on his front belt for a snug fitting hand gun / laser, and one on his thigh for a knife that looks like it might be able to do some damage to a real human
  • Cable is no acrobat, he’s big, he’s mean, and he’s imposing.  Mezco looks to be using a chunkier than average base figure here, or at least it looks that way to me, and it definitely works here.  With the articulation provided, you can get him into just about any pose you’d need or want
  • Tons of hand options, closed fist, weapon holding, grasping, open handed

The Bad

  • Cable’s batteries are under a removable piece of his upper back.  So real estate there is already tight…but Cable walks around quite frequently with a gigantic weapon slung over his shoulder / hung on his back.  Thanks to those batteries (I think?) that isn’t a pose you can achieve here.  A little bit of a bummer on this otherwise brilliant piece
  • I could not get Cable’s stand foot peg in either foot.  Sound off if you had the same problem.  He’s big, and he’s heavy, so he balances well by himself, but work cleaning crews are kind of rough and I really like to have the extra stability of a foot peg

The rest

If you have Deadpool, you need Cable.  if you love Cable, you need Cable.  If you are into sweet shelf candy, also need Cable!  Solid value in the package, light up feature, nice, chunky weapons, and a figure that plays the part better than most who have made an attempt at the character.  Cable is an easy recommendation to pick up this Holiday Season for you, or a loved one!  But he’s sold out on the Mezco site, and on pre-order everywhere else…so pre-order, print out a picture, and give the gift of a great promise with Cable!

Mezco One:12 Aquaman

Mezco One:12 Aquaman

Mezco One:12 Aquaman

Justice League Asse…no wait, that’s not it.  But what is it?  Another member of the Justice League joining the cast of Mezco One:12 action figures on my filing cabinet at work.  Aquaman is the second to last hold out of the original 7 to make it to One:12 glory, granted, Stewart Lantern is different than Hal Lantern, but close enough for me for now, and who knows if we will see the Martian Manhunter, but we need to hope, because a full JL Founders set would be amazing.  Anyway, we are here to talk about one of the latest members to join the gang, Aquaman, good old Arthur Curry, with golden locks and fish scaled green and orange!

The Good | The Bad | The Rest | Availability | The Pictures

The Good

  • This is another beautiful figure from Mezco, but if we don’t start with just how awesome the scaling on his outfit looks, right up front, we are doing it wrong.  There must be a thousand scales between his orange shirt, and green pants….and black underwear.  The level of detail is just incredible
  • Multiple included faces, chill Aquaman, smug Aquaman, and pretty pissed off Aquaman
  • The hair on each head, the sculpt is pretty nuts.  Different directions, exceptional lines
  • Gloves and boots, sleek, smooth, and they really pop, especially against the orange shirt sleeves
  • Gold detail work on his color, beautiful
  • He comes with a shoulder harness that makes him look quite royal
  • The royalty goes further with his …face crown thingy, why don’t I know the word for that?  It stays on thanks to continued clever use by Mezco, of the science of magnets
  • I swoon for how awesome his Aquaman belt buckle is!
  • It’s all topped off with his trident, which fits well in his hands (of which, you get many sets)

The Bad

  • This is an outstanding representation of Aquaman, and I want for nothing here.

The rest

If you are are into DC,  If you dig Aquaman, this bad boy right here could very easily become your shelf, defacto Aquaman.  You should have no hesitation in picking him up, that is if you can find him.  Mezco is already sold out!  He will be shipping from other outlets shortly, but I wouldn’t wait on pulling the trigger if you want him!

Mezco One:12 Wonder Woman Classic Edition

Mezco One:12 Wonder Woman Classic Edition

Mezco One:12 Wonder Woman Classic Edition

2019 is rapidly coming to a close, and it looks like things are going to go about the way they did in 2018.  With Mezco sending out a bevy of amazing new One:12 figures just before the end of the year!  This year, we start what is hopefully a run of One:12 reviews with Classic Wonder Woman, and we are hopeful that White cowled Moon Knight, and comic Aquaman at the very least, will join her on our slate.  For now though, today, we are here to talk about the absolutely iconic, clasically clad, legendary Themyscirian Princess, Wonder Woman!

The Good | The Bad | The Rest | Availability | The Pictures

The Good

  • It’s as if Mezco reached into my imagination, and pulled out the Wonder Woman that I see there
  • Classic in every sense of the word
  • Amazing outfit, just beautiful, hard plastic corsett, cloth covered bottom, bright red boots and
  • Her bracers / metal cuffs look like they can’t wait to be clanged together
  • Tiara sits just right on both heads
  • Loop is perfect for her Lasso of Truth
  • On her other hip she has a loop for the Sword of Athena which,
  • Looks insane, so incredibly ornate for a 1/12 scale plastic sword
  • Add to that the shield and axe, jaw dropping
  • She’s also got her spear, and that is layered with rich detail
  • Lest we forget her beautiful star adorned cape, sharp and deep blue here, with a perfect fit
  • The hair detail on WWs head, just nuts, and dare I say…salon fresh?
  • Skin paint / costume paint, very important here, and Mezco nails it on all the tricks

The Bad

  • This isn’t a knock, it’s just me being greedy, WW has two heads with two different expressions, neither smiling.  A smiling head would have been a great addition.

The rest

When it comes to DC characters, and, really Marvel characters too.  I find myself enjoying the movie and TV iterations, but I’m never motivated to collect anything for them.  When Mezco started their WW and Aquaman assault with the movie versions, I was honestly a little bummed.  Fantastic figures, just no personal interest or investment for me.  My patience paid off though, and has been rewarded in a very big way with this absolutely stunning Classic Wonder Woman One:12 figure.  She’s got exactly the right look, all the right accessories, and she is the Wonder Woman that I grew up enjoying.  Thank you for making another fantastic figure Mezco!

Mezco One:12 Cyclops

Mezco One:12 Cyclops

Mezco One:12 Cyclops

Our second official entry in the X-Men squad, is Cyclops.  This week, he joins Wolverine and non-X Mutant Deadpool in the hallowed halls of One:12-dom.  In awesome news to many, over the span of this week, Cyclops went from pending order status, to charged, to shipped, to landing on many folks doorsteps, including mine.  He’s hot on the heels of Green Lantern, but does he do enough as an action figure to stand on his own, and warrant the need to collect a full team of Mezco One:12 X-Men? Yes. Duh.

The Good | The Bad | The Rest | Availability | The Pictures

The Good

  • I was very excited about the light up feature for John Stewart, I am no less excited for Cyclops’s own light up feature, because it’s just so gosh darned appropriate, the Optic Blasts are so optic blasty!
  • More on this.  Mezco once again conquers innovation.  The light is contained within a scoping neck piece.  You twist and pull it out, pop off the cover, and plug in two very tiny batteries, in two very tiny slots.  My hands are giant, and I just managed without tweezers / pliers, I’m sure every day Joe with normal hands will be just fine
  • Still more though, turn it on, put it back in, turn, put your desired head on, and the effect is really quite pretty!
  • This is your Jim Lee Era (my absolute favorite era) Cyclops, he’s got the blue jumpsuit, the yellow strapping, and the brown locks draped over the yellow visor.  I say things like this, and mean it as the best compliment.  This is my Cyclops!
  • He comes with removable leather jacket!
  • HE! COMES! WITH! A! REMOVABLE! LEATHER! JACKET!
  • Accessories are absolutely appropriate, blast effects, optic blast activator finger pose hand, a “smoking” optic blast effect head, and of course
  • OPTIC BLAST EFFECTS!
  • That look amazing when lit up!

The Bad

  • The only bad thing about Cyclops is that he’s got a limited stock of Mutants to hang with.  Cable is coming, Magneto is coming, but otherwise, the only official in costume X-Man is Wolverine.  This is a population that would be best serving the One:12 fan base, by growing quickly.  Imagine the work Mezco could do with Arch-Angel’s wings?  *tingles!**
  • Not a bad thing, but consider me puzzled, and ultimately de-puzzled.  Cyclops has two heads.  Each has it’s own default visor.  Then, there is a third default visor included, PLUS! 2 of the same visor with the smoking beam coming out of the left side of it.  These aren’t really noted on the back of the package either, but I guess, in case you lose or break them.

The rest

Cyclops comes to us in this vanilla flavor in his 90s X-Men gear.  However, he’s not the only Cyclops coming, we are getting a PX Previews version, which will find him in his more classic late 70s / early 80’s pirate boot phase with full hood mask.  Let’s also not forget, NYCC 2019 is just around the corner, and we haven’t heard from Mezco as to what their Fall Exclusive(s) will be.  It wouldn’t be out of the question to see Cycke in his Blue  and White X-Suit though.  So keep your eyes peeled…unless you shoot high powered laser beams from them….in that case, keep them closed, and just ask a friend what other Cyclops figures One:12 is making…that’s a good plan.  This figure is brilliant, go get him.

Mezco One:12 John Stewart Green Lantern

Mezco One:12 John Stewart Green Lantern

Mezco One:12 John Stewart Green Lantern

Every time.  Every single time, I think I know what to expect when I open a Mezco box, and it’s always there, a figure…  But man, the surprises…whether it’s because I haven’t been paying attention, or it’s just so awesome, it’s a surprise anyway, Mezco fails to disappoint me, every, single, time.  Does that change with John Stewart Green Lantern?  NOPE!

The Good | The Bad | The Rest | Availability | The Pictures

The Good

  • Ok, so my favorite part about this figure is / was apparently common knowledge, but day job, dad life, litlgeeks, I don’t get out much, and didn’t know about this.  The lantern, it lights up, this seems obvious I guess. However, the way in which it does so, blew. my. mind.  John’s closed right fist (with ring), when pressed against the light, makes it light up…there isn’t a button, not a switch, it’s the ring, that lights the lantern, and I am giddy as a school girl about this
  • The accessories always make the Lantern Corps member.  Awesome smoking ring hand, blasting ring hand, star burst ring hand, green glow smash hand, dome hand, all amazing, and really, easy swaps
  • Flight stand, so he can do the flying, along with flight hands
  • Both faces are really just so detailed, life like, human looking, capture John Stewart perfectly, I prefer the bald head
  • Fantastic take on the costume

The Bad

  • My biggest issue with this, and will be the same with  Hal when he drops.  That’s likely to be it, or near to it.  These are brilliant figures, and I’d love to build a full Corps.  I don’t think that’s going to happen, unless Mezco drops everything else, and that’s not likely, or desirable either, first world problems

The rest

John is here.  Hal is coming as a PX Previews exclusive.  You’ll need both.  Because light up lanterns.  ‘Nuff said….no wait, wrong comic company!  (Just buy this dude while you can before they jack up the price!)
