Marvel Gamerverse Figures Group Shots!

Hasbro’s Marvel Gamerverse, Contest of Champions, Marvel Vs Capcom figures, call them what you want, are a boon and a life raft to Marvel 3.75″ action figure collectors, that have now gone nearly two years well under served.  After a much scaled down 2017, 2018 has seen a Deadpool set, and these.  Think back to when it all started, around 2009, the wave after wave, the amazing character after amazing character, addressed in plastic and added to the Marvel Universe catalog.  We are a long way from that Kansas my Toto-like friends, but there is a lot of promise in this figure line.  What Hasbro was able to put in the box for $19.99 is a solid value prospect.  Tons of articulation, accessories, and …two figures per!  Hit your Targets, pick these up, show your support, and let’s help Hasbro bring the Marvel 3.75″ figure line back to form!

Marvel Gamerverse Spider-Man Vs Mr. Negative 3.75″ 2-Pack

Round four of Gamerverse figures is here to wrap up this run with two beautiful figures in Mister Negative, and white spider Spider-Man (from the Sony Playstation 4 game Spider-Man) (which is just unreasonably good) (for serious, there is no reason for a game to be that amazing or like that good).  (it’s like Spider-Man is in your freaking room).  Both figures do incredible justice to their on-screen counter parts, and warrant that you should purchase them.  Immediately if possible, but read on and you decide.

Civil Warrior | The Collector The Rest | Availability Family Photos

Spider-Man

The Good

  • The best Spider-Man body out there was used for this bad boy.  Full of articulation, and in game Spidey feels a bit bigger and bulkier, especially in this costume, than waif Spidey, so, nailed it here.
  • That white spider looks fantastic.  Dead on.
  • Clean sharp lines throughout, solid paint application except for one spot.
  • Comes with a web accessory! Comes with an accessory!

The Bad

  • You’ll note in some pictures, thanks to a quality control issue, Spidey is missing some stripes
  • Many hours in, staring at that gorgeous new white spider costume, I have only one complaint, and it may just be me “I’m a guy so I’m color blind”, I feel like the blue should be darker to match the game version.

Mister Negative

The Good

  • Killed it here with character likeness.  The shimmer face and hands echo exactly what’s on screen.
  • Bright white, simple suit looks perfect.
  • Solid articulation, though torso movement is limited by the jacket.

The Bad

  • It’s a damned shame we aren’t getting release information on any other Marvel 3.75″ figures at this point, because I could think of a few characters that would be amazing on this mold.  You are really just a few strokes of white paint and a head swap away from modern Moon Knight (the one in a suit).  Man, I wish Hasbro would make that character…

The Rest

Good vs. evil on an epic scale with Spidey squaring off against his PS4 nemesis Mister Negative.  The figures get it right, as they have done in each of the two packs featured in this Gamerverse figure lineup!  Hasbro has done an outstanding job of character treatment, and they have gone ahead and proven that for $19.99 they can pack a ton of value into a box.  It’s time for retailers and fans to take notice that 3.75″ is not only viable, it’s freaking amazing, and we need more of it! I’ve got teams to finish! (New Warriors please, how bout’ them Annihilators!).

Availability

I got mine in Target for $19.99 and online, you can grab them at Entertainment Earth for $21.99.

Marvel’s Contest of Champions Civil Warrior Vs The Collector 3.75″ 2-Pack

I have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on a Civil Warrior figure since I first saw him pop up in Marvel’s Contest of Champions (first appearance June 2016).  Considering…just over two years, not really that long a wait, but I am an impatient collector.  Not THE Collector mind you.  He’s in this two-pack too.  The Collector is also heavily featured in Marvel’s Contest of Champions.  He’s also been in plastic before though, in 3.75″ scale none the less, as part of a 2016 SDCC exclusive set featuring The Collector and many of his …collectibles.  It’s fantastic to see that outstanding figure get a wide release though, and with Civil Warrior in the pack, this proposition is a can’t lose!  …Unless they fight each other, which they are supposed to do…in which case at least one of them loses I think.  In the game anyway.

Civil Warrior | The Collector The Rest | Availability Family Photos

Civil Warrior

The Good

  • Incredibly screen accurate.  This is the Civil Warrior you see in Marvel’s Contest of Champions.  Hasbro did an excellent job of capturing the character.
  • His upper half is just so beefy and sturdy.  If Hasbro decided they wanted to make 3.75″ football figures from here, it wouldn’t be a far leap.
  • Excellent articulation, double knees, torso, elbow, shoulders, neck, waist.
  • The belt looks great and contrasts his color scheme well.
  • Shield accessory with energy blast is game accurate, looks great, fits his wrist well, and the blast stays in the shield very well.

The Bad

  • No back peg hold for Civil Warrior to stow his shield when he’s not using it.

The Collector

The Good

  • Eye black, white hair, mutton chops.  This is the Tanleer Tivan we have grown to love.
  • The cape, the sash, exceptional in design look and feel.  The texture is eerie feeling.
  • Highly articulated, all, literally all of the available bells and whistles.
  • The above is mostly a copy / paste of my 2016 review.  He’s the same figure…but…
  • The paint wash here adds so much to the character!  A sheen, a richness of layering.  I don’t know if it is because it’s a lean towards game coloring but the effect is fantastic.

The Bad

  • He still doesn’t come with the Solar Sword.

The Rest

Another two-pack with excellent characters, incredibly well designed, and cool accessories included, all for a very reasonable $19.99.  Many Marvel fans should have played Contest of Champions by now, and anyone that has should be excited to get their hands on these characters in plastic.  Civil Warrior has been a really cool character design from the beginning, and The Collector is transcendent.  Forget about the game, he’s an absolute classic Marvel character that needs to be on your shelf in 3.75″.

Availability

I caught this and the other two Gamerverse two-packs at Target last Friday night for $19.99 each.  I’ve had trouble finding them anywhere on line to share a link with you though.  Leave it to Hasbro to make the real world, physical toy hunt exciting again!

Marvel Gamerverse Black Widow Vs Ryu 3.75″ 2-Pack

Marvel Gamerverse Black Widow Vs Ryu 3.75″ 2-Pack

Strange days have found us.  When MUReview first started up in 2011, we couldn’t post Marvel Universe 3.75″ figure news fast enough.  There was a wealth of figures, wealth of information, wealth of 3.75″ love and goodness.  Fast forward 7 years, 10 months into 2018, year after year we had hit after hit until about 2017…then we only really had 7 hits (technically 12, but 5 fell in the last two weeks of 2016).  This year, a Rainbow Deadpool set of figures, which we loved, and this series, Gamerverse, featuring 6 new figures (2 in 2017 make it 8).  Is this the spark that will re-ignite the retail flame for Marvel 3.75″ figures?  I have no idea, but I hope so, because it’s a fantastic series, read on.

Black Widow | Ryu The Rest | Availability Family Photos

Black Widow

The Good

  • That stunning red hair! Great color, great sculpt!
  • Especially shown in the comparison picture, look at how far face sculpt and detail have come! She’s beautiful!
  • Costume is well designed and well executed to match her Marvel Vs. Capcom appearance.
  • Widow comes with two guns and…TWO HOLSTERS!  The belt looks fantastic too.
  • Her hair cut covers one eye, unlike a few previous releases, the covered eye is painted!  Attention to detail!
  • Bracelets add to the classic and MvC Black Widow look.
  • Paint and paint design is sharp and clean.

The Bad

  • Black Widow features excellent arm and leg articulation, but does not feature any chest articulation.
  • Belt tends to ride up in the process of posing.

Ryu

The Good

  • Amazing articulation here, he’s able to move in all the modern ways, including everyone’s favorite chest articulation!  What’s interesting here is that his gi (I think it’s a gi, right?), goes over his shoulders and “ties” at his belt, and doesn’t really restrict movement at all.
  • White costume has a dirty brown tinge to it.  A very impressive effect in paint.
  • Look at how detailed those tiny feet are!
  • Face detail is game – spot on.
  • The detail in his hair is pretty nuts.
  • Close fisted hands included, swapping is easy.
  • Hadooken hands come factory attached and allow Ryu to pose as if he’s tossing his famous ball of energy, which…
  • Is included!  An independent ball can be attached to a motion effect, it’s just so freaking cool looking!

The Bad

  • The worst part about this figure, is that there is no known Ken figure on the horizon. I get the theme of the line but…where there is Ryu, there should be Ken.  That’s what my mid-90s brain tells me.

The Rest

Hasbro continues their “something a little different” line with 6 Gamerverse figures in 2018 (Iron Man / Mega Man hit Target in 2017, and as I understand it, they did pretty well, and I dug em!).  This line features Marvel characters and gaming characters. The two figures in one pack for $19.99, plus some accessories is a solid value, and per the above, Hasbro is once again cranking out highly detailed, fun, and cool action figures in the 3.75″ scale.  But, do you need them?  Yes.  Unequivocally, yes.  Buy them for me.  Buy them for you.  buy them so Hasbro makes more Marvel 3.75″ figures!  I still got teams to finish people!  Seriously though, outstanding figures, great detail, high value price point.  No brainer here.  If you collect 3.75″ figures, pick this and the other Gamerverse figures up!

Availability

The initial Gamerverse / Marvel Vs. Capcom 2-pack Iron Man and Mega Man were Target exclusives.  These won’t be Target exclusives, but I did find them at my local Target just two days ago for $19.99 each.  I bought one of each and they had at least two more of each on the peg including the original 2017 release. You can also pick up this set at Entertainment Earth by clicking here!

Best of 2017: Marvel Legends 3.75 Inch

Best of 2017: Marvel Legends 3.75 Inch

One:12 | Marvel Legends 6″ | Marvel Legends 3.75″ | Marvel Legends 12″ | Selects and Statues | Minimates | DC Icons

Way back in 2009, Hasbro started a 3.75″ action figure line featuring everyone’s favorite Marvel heroes.  I took notice immediately, and it didn’t take me long to develop my love of Marvel Universe figures into a place called MUReview.net.  In case you wondered what the upper case M and U stood for, there it is.   Maybe a little silly on my part, I couldn’t have imagined how many people would just call it MOOO Review.  Fast forward to 2017, and who would have thought, our little corner of the Internet has outlasted at least the name of the toy line that launched it. We’ve even gone on to expand what our name means, covering far more than just 3.75″ Marvel figures over the years, covering far more than even just Marvel over the years.  We’ve talked movies, video games, DC, Star Wars, Transformers.  But it all ties back to Marvel Universe and the 3 and 3/4 inch figures of that line.  3 and 3/4 inch figures Hasbro managed to pump out quite a few of in 2017, quite a few really nice ones at that!

Mega Man

Hasbro’s first jump into video games, to support Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite, and it made the list!  This figure is incredibly well designed and he looks outstanding for it.  Kind of has that “just jumped out of the screen into your living room” vibe.  Hasbro did an outstanding job with this guy, and I’m hoping that it leads to more Marvel Vs. Capcom figure packs in 2018!

Wolverine

In 2014, Wolverine died, X-23 took up the mantle and became Wolverine.  In 2017, we got a figure of said X-23 as Wolverine and she is stunning.  Her swirling hair, and bi-clawed hands look perfect.  The only thing she’s missing is the foot claw…wouldn’t a retractable one be pretty neat?

All New All Different Iron Man

One of the coolest Iron Man armors to come along in a while gets a nice treatment.  Very well executed figure, but I do have the complaint of not being able to swap out the right hand for something normal.

 Maestro

All New All Different Maestro if yer nasty!  This bad boy added some bulk into the 2017 Marvel Legends 3.75″ character lineup.  While I still pine for a savage land type Maestro with a ton of trophy accessories, being able to add him to my collection in this scale is 100% a win!  His armor is beautiful.

Moon Knight

One of two figures this year I got to love in both 6 and 3.75 inch.  This bad boy has fewer accessories than his taller brother, but he looks the same amount of fantastic, very faithful to the character.

Shocker

Finally, a main line Shocker!!  The lines on his uniform are poetry, so well done!

Executioner

Did i I just say finally?  Maybe under-utilized above.  FINALLY!  Executioner!  The bald guy that was promised so many years ago!  He’s a fantastic figure, looks great, and he even came with an exceptional redesign of Enchantress.

Age of Apocalypse Magneto

This pony-tailed Magneto has a cape that might be one of the best in scale.  His frame is excellent to represent the character, and you can even headswap with old school MU Magneto, for classic Magneto on a way better body!

Jewel

Stunning in white, the blue contrast gloves and belt, the jewel on Jewel’s belt, the hair, this is one of my favorite 3.75″ figures of the year.

Spider-Man 2099

The other 6 inch / 3.75 inch figure to win my heart in 2017.  I don’t know that I’ve ever read a page of the books that this Spidey is in, but I love the figure, I love the character design, and the execution on the figure in both 6 and 3.75 inch scales is Legendary (see what I did there?).

Hopes for 2018

There isn’t much announced for the 3.75 inch scale in 2018.  The Rainbow Deadpool set, which should be a retail wide release got pushed out of 2017, so we can expect that.    Everything else though, blank slate.  My main hope for this line is that it continues.  It is the one that started our site, it is the one that is the literal basis for decoration of my basement.  There are still so many figures that need to be done in this scale, New Warriors, classic Guardians of the Galaxy, how about a Herald’s of Galactus box set?  I’m worried but fairly certain it will be a quiet year in 2018 for Marvel 3.75″.  I’m hopeful though.  After 6 inch Marvel Legends had a quiet year or two, it came back to be one of the biggest collector toy lines ever.  Either way, we will have a ton of great toys to buy in 2018, so let’s buckle up and see what’s next!
