Thanks once again to the Magnificent Dane from the Make Mine Marvel Facebook group, MUReview is proud to bring you in hand images and commentary on Marvel Legends 2-Pack 2016 Wave 1! 1000 thank yous to Dane for the image hook up, we can’t wait to get our own hands on these awesome pieces of plastic!
Vance is painted perfectly and features his single most important detail, the Guardians of the Galaxy Star badge on his left chest. The body looks good and sturdy as befitting the man who would wield the shield in the future. While the shield is not pictured here, it is included.
Captain America (Falcon)
Folks have been clamoring for a solid Falcon Cap for a while now. The look of the figure fills the void very well. Again, not pictured, Cap includes the shield but does not include wings or a place to mount said wings. This could be a deal breaker for some looking for page perfect characterization. I would suggest however, in comics, he’s pictured without wings as often as with. I would further suggest that getting wings to stay on a figure is sometimes a dog fight (pun intended), so that I don’t have to worry about them, I’m not mad at that.
Superior Iron Man
From what I can see it appears that this bad boy is based off of the previously released Extermis Iron Man mold from the days of Marvel Universe. It’s an awesome mold with great articulation and a lot of opportunity for fine detail. Fine detail that the team at Hasbro looks to have taken advantage of. Lots of highlighting and sharp blue lines help define this as a very nice Iron Man figure. Folks may refer to this as a repaint, and in a literal sense sure, but with Iron Man, you have to get every variance, because it’s a different armor. That’s the law, I don’t make the law…but if you force me I will up….what was I talking about?
Machine Man has been getting some Hasbro love recently. He’s a 6 inch Legend, and now a 3.75. I love the look of this figure, mean, cool non-hands, solid paint. The only knock against it is his lack of accessorization…that’s not a word. But the 6 inch came with the kitchen sink, and here we don’t get anything that’s interchangeable. It’s an awesome figure on it’s own, spare parts would have made it better.
This figure pisses me off. Here we have a wave with the founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the original Marvel Cosmic Bad Boys, and I’m not looking at that figure as the most awesome of the wave. Granted, I don’t have these in my own hands yet, I haven’t been able to touch or feel them, but this Thor could be the best ever brought to the 3.75 inch scale. The level of detail, the molding, this really is a beautiful figure.
True story, not really a big fan of Thor. Tell you what though, this is another fine figure. The animal pelt over his shoulder, the way the team at Hasbro captured that massively arrogant smirk. This is some fine figure makin’.
What’s a 2-pack without a comic book? For real? 3 2-packs, 3 comic books. Look hard at the covers folks. Hasbro has gone a very long way to let you and I, as fans, recreate those covers. I can take amazing comic book art, and use figures to make it real…I wish there was some sort of name or organization for that. Maybe someday I guess.
I hope I’m not shooting my own eventual review in the foot here, but I love this wave. 3 characters that have never before graced the scale, 3 characters in brand new outfits / roles. Even the repaint of the wave counts for me as a must have new figure. What’s the downside? I’m freaking broken and I can’t figure out a way to get these 3 2-packs for less than $100 without waiting till they show up at retail…and even then that number is gonna be tight. Hey, the Philippines, got any spare to send my way? Oh right, it should be noted, again, these images came from our homie Dane. He’s always kept us in the know of new figures and he’s got boots on the ground and roots in the Philippines. For those not doing the math, these figures were released in the Philippines. Time to State side? 1-2 months for comic shops and online specialty retailers (bigbadtoystore.com). 3-4 to your brick and mortars? Although, who knows, 2016 wave 1 is already showing up in Walmarts around the country. Here’s to hoping.
Thanks to long time friend of MUReview, member of the Make Mine Marvel Facebook page, the Great Traveler, Dane, I am thrilled to bring you the first ever in-package, in-hand images of Marvel Legends 2016 Wave 1 of 2-packs!
This wave features 3 2-packs:
- Vance Astro / Captain America (Falcon version)
- Odinson / Thor (Lady version)
- Superior Iron Man / Machine Man
Feast your eyes!!
Well folks. I’ve got amazing news, and really just god awful news. Today, Hasbro Pulse revealed their final silhouette. It’s Quasar. It’s not just Quasar, but it’s the most amazing looking figure I could have hoped for. It’s the kind of figure that makes fans of the 6 inch line really angry that they aren’t getting it (yet at least, who knows). The moulding, the bracers, the way the cape fits, the colors. Even the shape of the face. This is definitely the cosmic fanboy in me speaking, but next to Nova Prime, this is the figure I’ve always wanted, and just this one single front shot shows that Hasbro and the Marvel Legends 3.75″ team has taken the task of creating Quasar and Annihilated it….see what I did there?
Now, the bad news. These folks are Marvel Legends Wave 3 for 2016…so…the wait will be absolute murder. Bravo Hasbro, an awesome line up awaits, and I can’t wait for it! The wave is expected in August of 2016.
2016 is on the horizon. With it, a brand new year of sweet, sweet Hasbro Marvel plastic! Turning up over the weekend on one of the usual suspects for Far East early fell off a truck sales, TaoBao, we get nice clear images of the first 2016 wave of Marvel Legends 3.75 figures. This story, and these images are brought to us by way of Mr. Along from some awesome Facebook groups including MakeMineMarvel The wave includes the knowns:
- Captain Marvel (no cowl – Danvers)
- Noir Spider-Man
- Iron Man
Two surprises though are re-packs of much older figures.
- Black Panther (appears to be from the Avengers light-up base TRU exclusive set, but with no blue tinting 2012)
- House of M Spider-Man (wave 6 of Marvel Universe 2009)
I would suggest that this is a smart move by Hasbro as we’ve got both Spidey and the Black Panther coming up in a 2016 film (Captain America Civil War). Case ratios are still uncertain, but this is will likely be a change from previous 12 to a case, 2 of each figure format established with the Marvel Infinite line.
At any rate, and as usual, 2016 can’t come fast enough because I can’t wait to get my paws on these sweet sweet figures, Yondu here I come! You can check out the listings for the figures here.
You can look at the nice pictures down below!
MUReview had the great pleasure and honor to speak with the Marvel Brand team members from Hasbro today just outside of New York Comic Con. Interview sessions were a strict timed 10 minutes (understandable, everyone gets a turn!), and because I pretty much love whatever Hasbro puts to plastic under the Marvel brand, I reached out to you, fans of MUReview, to see what you guys might want to have asked.
For the sake of brevity, I have listened to the interview. I will not be posting the audio interview. I sound like a tool, and there was some cursing…mostly because I was nervous…and I curse when I’m nervous. Back to it, for the sake of brevity, I listened to the review, and will be transcribing answers in a paraphrased question and answer format as best as possible.
The interview took place with Tony Kola, Mike Breslin, Dwight Stahl (I apologize for any mis-spellings).
We began our conversation with a brief recap of what’s coming for 2016 in the 3.75 inch Marvel line, then we got away from it and went back to it, so for ease of reading, while Mike B apologized for not having the whole roster memorized (…like he SHOULD have (kidding), the whole team chimed in and we got through what’s coming:
Secret Wars 2-packs
- Young Thor and Female Thor
- Captain Marvel (Danvers) (mask on) and Kree Captain Marvel (the best ever)
- Captain Falcon / America and Vance Astro / Major Victory (high fives all around on Vance Astro!)
- Hyperion Max and Hyperion Marvel Now
The newly branded Marvel Legends 3.75 inch line
- Noir Spider-Man
- Iron Man (Mark 1? 2? Can’t remember)
- Captain Marvel (Danvers)
Now to the questions.
Will we see a return to more accessories for the 3.75 inch line?
Mike B – ‘With any figure, 6 inch or 3.75, we want to get the right gear for the right person, if they have a signature piece or signature weapon we want to get that to the fans.’
Mike admits to kicking himself for not including a chain with Ghost Rider (so you all can stop, he’s doing it by himself.
Any chance stands will ever come back?
Mike B – ‘They could, they were knocked away a few years back for cost savings a few years back. There is no plans currently to include stands.’
Fans have expressed frustration with steep price inconsistencies, even at different locations of the same retailer. What is the official price?
Dwight – ‘That’s an interesting question, because it’s really up to our retailer, we can’t price fix. We can sell them goods at a specific price point and margin, then it’s up to the stores. It’s interesting in the dynamic you are experiencing, it’s because of the success and the growth of the segment. You see some retailers experimenting with the price point to see what the elasticity is. The good news is that this space is growing at such a rapid rate. We’re all excited, because remember that little four foot section of the store that used to be for collector and fan, now that’s a whole aisle. We’re growing as fast as we can, we can’t control everything, we can’t price fix, but our goal is to add as much quality in there as possible and it’s up to the retailer to sell it for what they see fit’.
Will the 6 (or 3.75) inch line of Marvel receive any vehicle / diorama treatment (as is being done with Star Wars lines)?
Mike B – ‘I would love to see us get to that point of entry for 6 inch. I think when you talk about the other things, the vehicles and stuff for guys to go in, there is no IP that has as strong of a balance between vehicles and figures. Marvel doesn’t have that yet. You know when characters shoot lasers from their eyes or most of them can fly or can punch through walls, you don’t need a taxi or a vehicle to drive you around. So it’s more of a challenge to find a Quinjet or a hover cycle or even Ghost Riders Motorcycle. That’s not to say that we won’t or that we haven’t had conversations about it. We would love to see us get to a point where we think we could deliver you guys a quality item of that nature, but right now none of those things are currently in the plan.
I see you have a first member of the Serpent Society here. Are there any plans to continue and complete the Serpent Society (Legends 6 inch)?
Mike B – ‘If Jessie Falcon has anything to do with it, yes you will see more Serpent Society…and he carries a little bit of weight”.
Will Hasbro be producing new product for Doctor Strange and Civil War?
Mike B – ‘We are working on some product for Doctor Strange but we are not revealing what that is at this time but we will be showing that at Toy Fair in February.
Tons of Civil War stuff, just a few months away.’
Fans are curious to see how Hasbro stands with Marvel’s current initiative of trying to murder the X-Men. Are we going to keep getting X-Men figures??
Mike B – ‘I would make X-Men every year if it was up to me. Sadly it’s not solely up to me. But Marvel is not opposed to us looking at X-Men in our fan offerings. They are fully in support of our Rogue figure, and Rogue is the first figure of an all new, first ever X-Men Legends Marvel BAF wave. She’s the first of 6-7 figures that will be out there. Because of the upcoming X-Movies for 2016, Marvel is very behind this. I think this is one of. This is a very fantastic wave!”
I hope you guys out there in reader land are happy with the answers to some of the burning questions surrounding Hasbro / Marvel plastic. I firmly believe that 2016 is going to be a monster year for the brand. After meeting with the brand team today, and Bobby V. last night, I couldn’t be much more confident with the folks running the line, that they have the passion and the creativity to make my favorite figures shine well into the future! Thank you again so much Hasbro, Justin, Brandon, Dwight, Mike, Tony, for taking the time to meet with MUReview. See you at Toy Fair!
