When “Thor” comes to Blu-ray on Sept. 13 it will include an exclusive “Marvel One-Shot” short starring S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson(played by Clark Gregg) who is quickly becoming a fan favorite. Fans were treated to a sneak peek of “The Consultant” at this year’s Comic-Con, along with a live appearance by Gregg himself. Now, Marvel.comhas released it online so you can check it out for yourselves:
The clip seems to set up the meeting between Tony Stark and General Ross that we see in The Incredible Hulk (with Stark acting as the “patsy”). According to co-producer Brad Winderbaum, “The Consultant” takes place after Iron Man 2, Thorand The Incredible Hulk. We know that Hulk is the last film in the chronology before The Avengers, so this short could be the bridge that links the individual films to the big team-up.
The Blu-ray will also include another Marvel One-Shot, titled “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer.” That one picks up just after Coulson has left Tony Stark’s lab in Iron Man 2, before he arrives at the New Mexico crater site in Thor. It will likely be more of a standalone story, but both will take you through a day in the life of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the job Marvel is doing by leveraging Agent Coulson to bridge the gap between the franchises. Here is to hoping he pops up on the Captain America Blu-ray as well.
