Marvel Legends Executioner and Enchantress 2-Pack 3.75″

When you’ve been doing this as long as I have, and you keep your eyes open, you get to see things fall through the cracks.  It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes.  Like with the Astonishing X-Men team pack that was to be released so many years ago.  Thankfully, Hasbro made good on that by releasing each figure of the pack that was promised on a single card, Astonishing Cyclops, Emma Frost and Juggolossus.  Another of those packs that fell through though, the Asgardians team pack, has to this point only had one of the three new figures addressed.  It was to feature Thor (we’d already gotten him), Valkyrie (delivered as part of Marvel Infinite wave 3 in 2014), and the Executioner.  Now, think about that…the pack was announced, canceled, and the last figure we got from the pack was in 2014.  That was THREE years ago.  Today, Hasbro delivers though, 5 years after the figure was initially teased, we get Executioner, and he comes with a dramatic improvement on an old friend to the Marvel Universe line, Enchantress.  As far as I can tell, this Executioner is that same figure that was announced so many years ago…was he worth the wait?

Executioner

The Good

  • Normally I’d tease you by checking out Enchantress first, but we’ve waited long enough…so yeah, the Executioner was worth the wait.
  • Confirmed that the figure is built on an old favorite mold, Hercules!  Tons of articulation here.  I love him on this mold, I wonder what he’d look like on a Hulk / Abomination / Juggernaut type mold though.
  • Face / head design, heck, overall design does a great job of nailing the character of Executioner.
  • Beefy battle axe looks great, fits well in the Executioner’s hands.
  • Good attention to detail, back to the face, his little eye shadow curls are present, they look awesome.

The Bad

  • This dude needs two M-16s hardcore.
  • Jerkin limits torso movement.
  • When viewed from the front, one side of his goatee is thicker than the other, QC issue, not design issue, but still noticeable.

Enchantress

The Good

  • This Enchantress improves on the original way back when release in a ton of ways, but chiefly, face design and detail.  I remember being happy with the previous Enchantress.  When I took her out of the display case, I immediately noticed that instead of looking like a Norse sorceress, she far more closely resembled Wilma Flintstone after going 10 rounds with Mike Tyson in his prime. She even has the runny lipstick to prove it.  This Enchantress though, beautiful face sculpt, detailed, very feminine.
  • Another modern female figure from Hasbro with hair that is just absolutely insane.  There is so much detail in the hair sculpt…just…look at the pictures.
  • Tassled sash looks fantastic, another improvement on the original.
  • Tiara / helm is another improvement, it fits her face better, looks better overall.
  • Leg design / detail is carried down on to the feet and it improves the overall look of the figure.

The Bad

  • From the outside of the package her eye balls looked good.  Closer inspection shows that they are just a little far apart…but she can see the whole battlefield!

The Rest

After 5 long years, the payoff paid off.  An excellent figure in the Executioner and a much needed upgrade on the Enchantress figure.  Without hesitation, fans of Marvel 3.75″, I recommend you get your hands on this set before it disappears at retail.  At $19.99, it is a steal and needs to be a part of your collection.  Thank you to Hasbro for finally putting out the Executioner, and thank you to all the fans who for years pelted, and had me pelt Hasbro with questions about when we’d eventually get the figures.  I feel like, and kinda hope, we at least had a little something to do with it, right?

Best of 2017: Marvel Legends 3.75 Inch

Best of 2017: Marvel Legends 3.75 Inch

One:12 | Marvel Legends 6″ | Marvel Legends 3.75″ | Marvel Legends 12″ | Selects and Statues | Minimates | DC Icons

Way back in 2009, Hasbro started a 3.75″ action figure line featuring everyone’s favorite Marvel heroes.  I took notice immediately, and it didn’t take me long to develop my love of Marvel Universe figures into a place called MUReview.net.  In case you wondered what the upper case M and U stood for, there it is.   Maybe a little silly on my part, I couldn’t have imagined how many people would just call it MOOO Review.  Fast forward to 2017, and who would have thought, our little corner of the Internet has outlasted at least the name of the toy line that launched it. We’ve even gone on to expand what our name means, covering far more than just 3.75″ Marvel figures over the years, covering far more than even just Marvel over the years.  We’ve talked movies, video games, DC, Star Wars, Transformers.  But it all ties back to Marvel Universe and the 3 and 3/4 inch figures of that line.  3 and 3/4 inch figures Hasbro managed to pump out quite a few of in 2017, quite a few really nice ones at that!

Mega Man

Hasbro’s first jump into video games, to support Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite, and it made the list!  This figure is incredibly well designed and he looks outstanding for it.  Kind of has that “just jumped out of the screen into your living room” vibe.  Hasbro did an outstanding job with this guy, and I’m hoping that it leads to more Marvel Vs. Capcom figure packs in 2018!

Wolverine

In 2014, Wolverine died, X-23 took up the mantle and became Wolverine.  In 2017, we got a figure of said X-23 as Wolverine and she is stunning.  Her swirling hair, and bi-clawed hands look perfect.  The only thing she’s missing is the foot claw…wouldn’t a retractable one be pretty neat?

All New All Different Iron Man

One of the coolest Iron Man armors to come along in a while gets a nice treatment.  Very well executed figure, but I do have the complaint of not being able to swap out the right hand for something normal.

 Maestro

All New All Different Maestro if yer nasty!  This bad boy added some bulk into the 2017 Marvel Legends 3.75″ character lineup.  While I still pine for a savage land type Maestro with a ton of trophy accessories, being able to add him to my collection in this scale is 100% a win!  His armor is beautiful.

Moon Knight

One of two figures this year I got to love in both 6 and 3.75 inch.  This bad boy has fewer accessories than his taller brother, but he looks the same amount of fantastic, very faithful to the character.

Shocker

Finally, a main line Shocker!!  The lines on his uniform are poetry, so well done!

Executioner

Did i I just say finally?  Maybe under-utilized above.  FINALLY!  Executioner!  The bald guy that was promised so many years ago!  He’s a fantastic figure, looks great, and he even came with an exceptional redesign of Enchantress.

Age of Apocalypse Magneto

This pony-tailed Magneto has a cape that might be one of the best in scale.  His frame is excellent to represent the character, and you can even headswap with old school MU Magneto, for classic Magneto on a way better body!

Jewel

Stunning in white, the blue contrast gloves and belt, the jewel on Jewel’s belt, the hair, this is one of my favorite 3.75″ figures of the year.

Spider-Man 2099

The other 6 inch / 3.75 inch figure to win my heart in 2017.  I don’t know that I’ve ever read a page of the books that this Spidey is in, but I love the figure, I love the character design, and the execution on the figure in both 6 and 3.75 inch scales is Legendary (see what I did there?).

Hopes for 2018

There isn’t much announced for the 3.75 inch scale in 2018.  The Rainbow Deadpool set, which should be a retail wide release got pushed out of 2017, so we can expect that.    Everything else though, blank slate.  My main hope for this line is that it continues.  It is the one that started our site, it is the one that is the literal basis for decoration of my basement.  There are still so many figures that need to be done in this scale, New Warriors, classic Guardians of the Galaxy, how about a Herald’s of Galactus box set?  I’m worried but fairly certain it will be a quiet year in 2018 for Marvel 3.75″.  I’m hopeful though.  After 6 inch Marvel Legends had a quiet year or two, it came back to be one of the biggest collector toy lines ever.  Either way, we will have a ton of great toys to buy in 2018, so let’s buckle up and see what’s next!

Marvel Legends 3.75 2017 Wave 5: Gold Ultron

Long Live Marvel Legends 3.75!  Let’s celebrate another wave of Marvel Legends 3.75″ figures by kicking it off with some solid gold! …painted plastic.  Let’s also celebrate that today, 9/8/17 is the first day of the first ever HASCON in Rhode Island, and MUReview will be on hand to bring you all the Marvel Legends info you need to know….now, on with the show.  The last time we got a full wave of Marvel Legends 3.75″ figures was round about December of 2016 with the Moon Knight, Maestro, All New All Different Iron Man, Wolverine, Lady Deadpool and Spider-UK figures.  Since then we’ve gotten a slew of “non-wave” style releases.  We’ve gotten movie 2-packs of Spider-Man and Vulture, Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange,  Yondu and Star-Lord, as well as a non-movie 2-pack of Shocker and Spider-Man.  We got a Toys R Us exclusive Guardians of the Galaxy Box Set.   We got an Amazon exclusive Spider-Man Sinister 6 Box Set.  Even more recently, we got the finally released gem of Executioner and Enchantress, along side the movie 2-pack of Thor and Hulk.  Blurring the lines pretty heavily, we did actually get a 3.75″ SDCC exclusive too, it wasn’t necessarily pure Marvel, but there were hints in that absolutely astonishing IDW Revolution Box Set.  By now you are thinking, what is the doofus plodding on about?  Sure, that’s a lot of fancy blue linked text, but what’s the point.  That fancy blue linked text, each piece represents a 3.75″ figure we got for 2017.  Between December 2016 and now, it hasn’t been a barren wasteland of no 3.75″ figures, there has really been quite a lot of releases out of Hasbro Marvel in the scale.  These aren’t necessarily the type of releases we are used to, but they are a lot of releases, and I hope seeing them all in one place is enough to quiet the trumpeters that have screamed for so long that this line is dying and or dead.  It’s still here.  It’s different than it was in 2010, but as with all things, time changes, time evolves things.  I have been pretty happy with the releases this year, if you click the links, you’ll see that and why in each case.  I’m not gonna lie though, I’ve been waiting for this Wave since it’s announcement at SDCC 2016 very impatiently.  I’m glad it’s finally here….happier still that I get to share it with you today!

The Good

  • This Ultron figure came out a really long time ago (in two different colors, silver with black line detail and red head highlights with Reed Richards in a two-pack, then Silver with green line detail and green head highlights on a single card), and it was fantastic figure back then.  It’s still a fantastic figure.
  • The gold coloring is beautiful.
  • Retained are the nicely sculpted out detail lines throughout his body, this time though, they are not filled in with contrasting color, he’s one solid gold through and through.
  • His face is as menacing as ever, deep, mean evil red highlights his eyes and the inside of his mouth.  The evil red is highlighted with splotches of black making him that much more mean looking.
  • His shoulder pads still look awesome, as do his knee pads.
  • Folks love the older more articulated bodies for 3.75.  Here ya go!

The Bad

  • While this figure has aged very, very well, it would have been neat to see some updates here beyond the color.

The Rest

I’m really psyched to finally get my hands on this Ultron. He was teased in 2015 as part of wave 3 2015 and pulled back.  It was Ultron and Scarlet Spider that got teased, but didn’t make the wave because Juggo-lossus and North Star got pulled into the wave.  Certainly no complaints at the time because we had waited so long for those two figures anyway.  Scarlet Spider did eventually make it out, and now, finally, Hasbro has caught us up to all the things they at one point teased but didn’t release (Executioner, Scarlet Spider, Gold Ultron, Juggo-lossus, Emma Frost, North Star).  Gold Ultron is an awesome figure, a check mark in the positive column for any 3.75″ collector.  Besides, you can never have enough Ultron figures really.  Why not make a Golden Company of Ultrons?  ….See what I did there, Game of Thrones fans?  One more thing…(my Steve Jobs moment).  Look in the gallery.  Look at the back of package shot. This is a 5 figure wave.  But on the back, 6 figure pictures!! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN.  Marvel’s Falcon also pictured…I wonder if we will hear more about him at HASCON tonight at the Marvel Legends panel at 5:30.

Marvel Legends Thor and Hulk 2-Pack

Well, it’s Saturday and I bet you thought that MUReview was gonna take a little break from posting all things Hasbro… well, nope!  Today, thanks to local Toys R Us love, we get a crack at the Marvel Legends Thor and Hulk 2-pack!  And ya know what?  Because I like ya, I’m gonna take a look at the Enchantress and Executioner 2-pack tomorrow!  It’s madness!  We are going on two solid weeks of Hasbro Marvel reviews and we can’t get enough!  But I digress, let’s talk about Thor and Hulk.  This 2-pack features the unlikely duo in their movie decos from the upcoming Ragnarok film.  I can’t wait for the movie, so Hasbro dropping all of this Thor Ragnarok product on August 1, perfect timing, but are the figures perfect?  Let us discuss….

Thor | Hulk The Rest | Availability Family Photos

Thor

The Good

  • All of the war paint on his armor, face, everywhere, it looks really well done, intentionally placed, and from the trailer, movie accurate.
  • Clever connection points for his half cape, it stays on very well.
  • His helmet looks great.
  • His face looks movie accurate, really nice for this scale.
  • Articulation is good overall here, not outstanding, but good.  The absence of ab-crunch is felt, but the figures without it have much better looking torso decos #sorrynotsorry.
  • The paint here, really well done overall with limited exception.  I know I mentioned specifically the warpaint, but throughout the deco, it’s solid, really good re-creation of what we’ve seen in trailers.
  • Why does he have Mjolnir? Hmmmm….

The Bad

  • It’d of been really cool if the wings on his helmet were articulated like int he trailer.
  • The inside of the front of his helmet is painted flesh color.  Oh well.

Hulk

The Good

  • Probably my favorite movie Hulk figure to date.  They all look too much like Mark Ruffalo.  It looks like Marvel, and in this case Hasbro by way of Marvel are taking steps to Make Hulk Hulk look less like Mark Hulk and I like it.
  • That said, this looks like the guy I’ve seen in the trailers and we should all be happy about that.
  • Again, the attention to detail in the warpaint, fantastic!
  • Included hammer and helmet look great and movie-like.
  • The feathering on the top of the helmet, amazing, very well done!
  • The sculpt detail on his metallic parts is astonishing, the shoulder pad, the gauntlets.  The design on the leather pieces underneath, there is so much detail here.
  • My clever kid stuffed Hulks war hammer in the back of his leather straps, it looks awesome.

The Bad

  • I really love this figure, but no ab-crunch for articulation fans.  I have to put something in this section..so that’s all I’m saying.

The Rest

Hasbro is continuing their 3.75″ movie love with this Thor Ragnarok 2-pack and I have 0 complaints.  They did a great job with both characters, movie accurate (at least from what I can see in the trailers), and the figures feel good.  They are a little limited in articulation, but these are two of the behemoths of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they shouldn’t really be all that acrobatic in the first place.  If you love 3.75″, and you can’t wait for Thor Ragnarok (in theaters November 2017), you can’t go wrong with this set.  Another fine job by the Marvel 3.75″ figure designers at Hasbro, you know who you are!

Availability

Thor and Hulk are available now from Amazon for $32.  If you buy them from that link, I get some money, so that’d be nice, but that’s way too expensive.  Go to Toys R Us or hit up our friends at BigBadToyStore.com.  It’s retail at those other places.
