Toy Fair 2018: Mezco

Toy Fair Mega Post

Let me start by saying thank you to the fine folks at Mezco for having MUReview.net out to their special press event at their booth on the show floor of Toy Fair 2018.  I’ve long considered Mezco a friend of our site, they always include us, even if we weren’t able to make it the first few times they invited us.  In fact, I think it happened once or twice I couldn’t make the event.  In years prior, Mezco would hold their press event a week or two in advance of Toy Fair at their offices in Long Island City, NY.  Location wise, incredibly convenient as we here at MUReview.net live on Long Island (it’s a train ride from here to there).  Unfortunately, we also have a day job so getting time off for Toy Fair, and in advance of Toy Fair, that was a bit of a trick.  I’m babbling.  This year, instead of off site and in advance of Toy Fair, Mezco held their event on site during Toy Fair.  Pros – I was already there.  Cons – Man, Mezco had it right, getting to see their stuff not behind the glass at their off site does make a big difference, but either way, and every time, I’m grateful to be included. More, I’m grateful to be able to share with you, the amazing stuff that Mezco had on display, and to receive the amazing stuff that Mezco was generous beyond words to share with me.

One:12 Comics | One:12 Non-Comics | Horror / Living Dead Dolls | Mez-Itz | Kong | Two More Things

One:12 Comics

Well, this comes a few days after Mezco held their event so I’m not going to drop your jaw with the reveals, they are already out in the universe, so you’ll just get my take on them, and then I’ll show you pictures.

  • Cyclops – Only just last week someone was showing off a really nice custom of a One:12 Cyclops, and I thought man…they really should make that.  And they did…so I bet the guy that made the custom face palmed a little bit, but honestly, the rest of us get this amazing Jim Lee era Cyclops treat!  There is some buzz about the coloring of his suit being a little off.  For me, he’s blue, he’s yellow, he’s got great hair and a visor.  This is my Cyclops. Thank you Mezco!
  • Blade – Is that Wesley Snipes? That’s Wesley Snipes!
  • Cable – Dude’s bad ass and has a metal arm, what else do you need?  Right, this figure, when it drops, you’ll have to buy it.
  • Home Made Suit Spidey – This is Spidey in one of his most humble appearances, and we are lucky to have the chance to bring him home!
  • Hela – Don’t sleep on Hela, this is a stunning figure based on Cate Blanchett’s flawless portrayal in Thor Ragnarok.  She’s going to fit nicely between Thor and Hulk.
  • Sovereign Knight Batman – This is the Batman many have been waiting for.  I want him, you want him.  Can I get a blue and yellow variant just cuz?
  • John Stewart Green Lantern – Giving us a Green Lantern fills a big gap on many shelves at this point.  Flash, Bats, Supes, GL is the obvious next choice.  I love the design choices on Stewart, I also can’t wait for a Hal version (I grew up Super Friends).

More on display than just the above, check out the images, but before you do, I have some questions.

  • We are getting a Darkseid.  When do we get a Thanos?  Will it be a movie Thanos?  Or will it be the real deal comic version, and will he have an Infinity Gauntlet?
  • I am sure the answer is yes, but do we get an un-helmed head of Hela?
  • The Darkseid card says release is Holiday 2018.  For real, can I just get that now?

One:12 Non Comics

John Wick gets a One:12, Clockwork Orange gets a One:12, the four original Ghost Busters, Jason, Michael Meyers, Popeye gets a One:12!  Mezco is extending these brilliantly designed figures to include some of the most beloved licenses in cinema.  Can I get a Neo though?

Horror and Living Dead Dolls

One:12 fans find their way to MUReview.net frequently enough, but they may not know that Mezco has more going on than One:12.  Mezco has a deep and rich history with the Living Dead Dolls, and also in producing some incredible horror licensed figures, dolls, plush, oddities, novelties and more.  Check em out.

Mezitz

Little adorable heroes, that are highly collectible?  I’m still gonna find me that Doctor Fate.  Batman is getting his Mobiles fleshed out in Mezitz style and we get some great new Puzzle Boxes too!

Kong

It’s Kong, and he’s pretty big. He’s also massive, in two of the most beautifully detailed representations of the character, Mezco just kills it Kong style in 2018.

Two More Things

Last year, Mezco sent their press friends home with a goody bag featuring one or the other, Toy Fair Exclusive Punisher, or, I believe it was a Spock, but I didn’t get Spock, I got the Punisher, and you can check out his review here.  The Punisher was one of the earliest figures in my One:12 collection, certainly one who helped me fall down the rabbit hole with Mezco even further.  This year, they gave their media based friends a gift  bag featuring two items.  A Living Dead Doll (Halloween 2017 Sweet Tooth), and what some folks are now selling on eBay for the price of about 4 mortgage payments, a Toy Fair exclusive Ascending Knight Batman.  As folks wait for the vanilla flavored Ascending Knight Batman to hit stores, this exclusive comes to us in black on black on black.  I’d tell you he looks stunning, I’m sure I WILL tell you that, but I haven’t opened mine yet.  I’m firmly committed to completing Toy Fair 2018 coverage before I get back into doing reviews and litlgeeks videos, but there is just a metric ton of coverage.  So between now and when I get the TFX Ascending Knight Batman opened and reviewed, I hope no one tells someone where I live, because these goods are smokin’ hot and in incredibly high demand.  Only Mezco Toy Fair Press Event attendees will have ever gotten their hands on one, and there were probably less than 100 attendees (to be honest, it could have been closer to 50, Mezco keeps a close knit group of friends that I’m honored to be counted among) (also why it’s crazy to think that someone would take a gift from them like that and just flip it on eBay), so for Mezco One:12 collectors, this is some of the rarest of the rare.  Couple that with the fact that One:12 line fans have become absolutely rabid with consuming these incredible figures…sheeeedoggie.  Thank you times a million Mezco for having me down to this event.  Thank you for the incredible parting gifts.  More than anything though, thank you for these amazing figures that you keep producing that I get to review.  I’m psyched for 2018, Iron Man, Black Panther, Darkseid, so many more.  Stay tuned for those reviews as the figures come out, and come on back for a look at the “murder a fool for it” Toy Fair Exclusive Ascending Knight Batman.

Thank you again to the fine folks at Mezco for always including MUReview on all the fun.  Master Drake, Captain Pierre, you guys are the best!  Keep up the good Mez!
