Marvel Legends Black Panther 2018 Wave: Erik Killmonger

Figure number two in a wave of 8, second verse, very similar to the first, but also vastly different?  Erik Killmonger and Black Panther are definitely cut from the same cloth, but at some point Killmonger took a hard left into making evil look cool.  How did Hasbro do with the figure?

The Good

  • There is an insane amount of sculpt detail here.  Tons of raised dots in lines that aren’t anywhere on the Black Panther figure.  these add to the texture and quality feel of the figure, and also enhance the evils.
  • Paint here is crazy.  At first look he looks like a muddied up version of Black Panther, but look close, tons of gold, but if you look deeper you can see splotchy patterning throughout his costume.  Multiple layers of rich paint / design detail here are just crazy impressive.
  • A significant amount of sculpt detail is present on Killmonger’s head.  Line after raised line, plus diveted and sculpted in pieces.  The look here is beautiful.
  • The gold pieces really pop off of the figure in contrast to the dark black.

The Bad

  • My only down side is that I don’t know more about him as of writing this review, he’s a beautiful figure!

The Rest

Erik Killmonger is menacing.  Hasbro did another outstanding job of going from screen to plastic in just about every way.  He’s pose-able for days, looks great on the shelf and for me, the only thing that’s missing is that I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I’m not sure just how much I should be mad at the character for making trouble for T’Challa and the gang.  Either way, the depth featured on this figure goes beyond most things I’ve ever seen Hasbro do, they come out swinging with something new and exciting every round, and I’m hoping that this level of detail is featured on figures both movie and comic based throughout the year.
