Wonder Woman celebrates her 75th in 2017. I think that probably answers the question of why we haven’t seen her in Icons until now. As far as Super Hero Icons go, Wonder Woman is probably at least in the top 3 of all time, certainly at least one of the top 3 that if you asked anyone, the name of three heroes…she’s in that short list. That said, we definitely have waited too long to get Wonder Woman, holding her for the anniversary celebration or not. I’m glad that in the span of a month or so, Icons has given us two, and they are definitely different enough to warrant a look at each!
The Good
Wonder Woman is full of incredible sculpted pieces. All of her armor, shin, forearm, looks great and adds a layer of sturdiness to the character. She’s even got armor on the backs of her hands!
Sculpted W’s, chest eagle, all look fantastic.
Wonder Woman gets a hanging hook for her lasso and two different versions of her lasso!
The mechanism employed to mount her shield to her wrist and back is well executed and while there are some flaws with the mounts / positions of the mounts themselves, the shield works out pretty well.
Wonder Woman has her sword and a look to holster it as well. It looks great hanging or in hand.
The Bad
Wonder Woman’s hair, while stunning and highly detailed gives this figure a few problems. Her back shield mount is tough to reach and position properly with the shield attached due to impedance by the hair. Wonder Woman’s head movement is also heavily limited by her hair.
Wonder Woman’s wrist shield mount is very loose and mounting the shield to it, the weight of the shield causes a good bit of floopyness. Yes…floopyness, look it up, you will find nothing.
The Differences
The differences between this figure and the JL Box set Rebirth WW should be noted, they aren’t good or bad though, so I’m putting them here.
This Wonder Woman is significantly smaller than the JL Rebirth Wonder Woman.
While the face, head, and hair all look the same, the single card Wonder Woman has a noticable look down force due to how the hair sits on her head / against her shoulders, while the Rebirth figure does not.
The uniform is of course, very different, depicting two separate versions of Wonder Woman.
The single figure features accessories while the team pack figure does not.
The rest
Hot on the heels of the Rebirth Justice League Team Pack, we get our first single carded Wonder Woman DC Icons figure. She’s beautiful and she’s definitely different than the Rebirth figure. If you need Wonder Woman in your collection and you aren’t looking for the rest of the JL, this figure is your prime option. It’s not without some minor flaws, but you like me, will probably be pretty happy with her when all is said and done. She’s got the sword, the shield, the lasso. It’s all there in new 52 glory.
It probably makes me a bad comic fan, but Swamp Thing is one of those rare characters from any comic universe where I am only familiar with the character because of the TV show. I really hadn’t even known there were two Swamp Thing movies out in the wild by the time I was enjoying the show, and I did really enjoy the show. I was young though. When the first movie came out I was 3, the second, I was 10. So that’s my excuse. Either way, it’s 2017. Swamp Thing still has a comic running all the way up through DC’s Rebirth. Today, he gets a very faithful figure by way of DC Icons. Let’s have a look.
The Good
Un-Man is the creepiest accessory for any action figure or toy I have ever owned. The coloring is eerily flesh, the sculpt is Un(haaa)real.
He’s the tallest Icon (except for Darkseid) which is well in scale with the line.
Good articulation for this hulking figure, double jointed all the things, ankle rockets, ab crunch. He’s not an acrobatic character, this is more than sufficient.
Swamp Things face is really faithfully captured here.
The Bad
If I had any complaints with this figure, while the height is right, I think I’d like to see him a little bulkier.
I’d also like to see some swamp accessories, maybe a swampy cloak you could drape over him or something like that.
The rest
Swamp Thing is a solid entry in the DC Icons line. He’s a figure of a character I enjoyed from my childhood and I’m really excited to have him on my shelf. I’m happy he stands taller than my other Icons, a little disappointed he’s not bulkier, but overall, this is a really nice figure and you should go for it!
I feel as though this may be irresponsible of me, but I don’t even care. You don’t really have to read this review. Do not pass go, just go right to your LCS, or favorite online place to buy figures, and buy Deathstroke. He’s making a strong bid for figure of the year and it’s only April. I really haven’t seen paint like this on any figure before, he’s gorgeous, you need to buy him, the rest is semantics, but for the sake of my own ego, I will share my thoughts with you anyway.
The Good
The paint on this figure is astonishing. The shimmer effect is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s plastic that looks metal and it is beautiful.
Great pieces and detail on the sculpted belt, grenades, pouches, tons to love.
Two heads are better than one. You have the classic masked look with nice long tails, and the eye patched unmasked head. What I really dig about that, I’ve gotten figures before where the hair covers one side of the face, and if you move the hair, there is no eye painted on…here, Deathstroke has an eyepatch and you can actually see his eyebrow coming out of it! Otherwise the face looks perfectly grizzled and Deathstrokey.
The weapons included, really fantastic. His sword is highly detailed, fits perfectly in the scabbard, and the scabbard clicks into DSs back easily and solidy. His revolver has a holster, always love that, and he carries a big stick!
Very solid figure movement / articulation here, feels flexible.
A lot of great detail, check out his wrists with additional detail on his gloves.
Those boot flaps are just dead on.
The Bad
I don’t even have a nitpicky thing to say about Slade. This figure is all I have ever wanted in a Deathstroke. I’ve owned quite a few and this crushes them all.
The rest
Deathstroke is an achievement in figure making and if you want him you should grab him now because before long he’s going to be impossible to find. Speaking of impossible to find, I’m going to use this section in my first review since the news came out to address the rough news out of camp DC Collectibles. A solid chunk of DC Icons figures have been canceled due to lack of sales / pre-sales. I’m paraphrasing, I’m sure there was more driving the decision, but that’s the buzz. Affected figures, Catwoman, Etrigan, Booster Gold / Blue Beetle 2-pack, Deadshot, Shazam, and Sinestro. I had pre-orders on all of them, wanted all of them, and there are a few in that list that were very high on my want sheet. What is still coming? Supergirl, Nightwing, Iconic moments Superman and Doomsday, and the Damien Wayne / Superboy 2-pack. It’s a much skinnier offering in 2017 than was originally planned and I’m bummed. I’ve done all I can to support this line and will continue to do so. Folks have complaints about articulation and scale. Scale at least I’ve always taken as a plus, a differentiation point. Articulation, it’s not unimportant, and there are some still existing flaws in Icons, the ability to look up higher does not a figure break. Once I get a figure, they go on a shelf and I admire them. If they can’t get into a pose I want, I put them in a different one and I move on. I’m not being critical of folks who are critical of these points, but for me, they don’t diminish the incredible art that DC Collectibles is delivering with this line. What is diminishing that art is lack of sales / pre-sales. So if you want these figures, pre-order them online, at your LCS, whatever you have to do. Let’s keep these characters coming, because while I’m bummed about the lost figures above, I’m going to be truly devastated if this line doesn’t make it to Doctor Fate and Red Tornado. I got rid of all of my DC Universe Classics and went all in here. I still think it was the right bet, these figures are stunning. Get on board! PS, I’m not going into this point for the upcoming Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Static or Cyborg reviews.

When I think about the X-Men and my current relationship with them, being honest, it’s been kinda “meh”. Much of that I think is because of a lack-luster run of movies (that is finally turning around mind you, I enjoyed Apocalypse, Deadpool was amazing and Logan did some great things). The highlight in my relationship with X-Men though has been the Marvel Legends X-Men figure waves. Hasbro has done an outstanding job with character selection and design. What that has done is, it’s put me back into contact and context with the characters that were once some of my favorites of all time.
This wave in particular hit on a lot of high notes, and while you’ve (hopefully) read the review of each figure to this point, it’s worth it to say again, my favorites here are Cyclops, Shatterstar and Colossus for sure. However, every figure will find a permanent place on my crowded shelves, they all have something great to offer, they look great together, and they look great among their mutant brethren.

MUReview left Toy Fair 2017 with so much great stuff, and we are still going through our pile so we can share it all with you. Today we are very excited to share with you, LEGO Brick Headz featuring Lego Batman and Lego Robin!
LEGO Brick Headz are fun and simple builds of fantastic figures that look great on your shelf. LEGO is doing a great job of filling out the Brick Headz line with tons of wonderful characters. For LEGO Batman the lineup features Batman, Robin, Joker and Batgirl!
LEGO Brick Headz are recommended for ages 10 and up, have about 100 pieces each and take 5-15 minutes to build depending on your level of LEGO building. The litlgeeks are under 10 but have been building with LEGO for a long time. litlzombie needed some help but litlninja built Batman all by himself…with some Magic of course!
