Guardians Of The Galaxy – Gamora and Star Lord

Guardians Of The Galaxy – Gamora and Star Lord

Guardians Of The Galaxy – Gamora and Star Lord

The announcement of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2.5 inch line left many scratching their heads and wishing for a 3.75 inch line.  I was one of those many, but now having had hands on for a while with the 2.5 inch line, I see that it’s great for kids, and for collectors, it’s an excellent change of pace.  Let’s have a look at Gamora and Star Lord!

Gamora

The Good:

  • Excellent coloring, shows off movie green skin.
  • Included sword is more than reminiscent of on screen.

The Bad:

  • Of all the figures, Gamora shines the least in this scale, big bulky hands and hard to read features.

Star Lord

The Good:

  • Short coat, no face mask, Star Lord looks like Peter Quill, looks like Chris Pratt!
  • Jacket detail is excellent.
  • Stubble detail is excellent.

The Bad:

  • There is maybe a little too much Star Lord love in this series.  He comes with the Milano and in one other 2-pack.

Both

The Rest:

  • For $6 a 2-pack, there is no reason not to grab this whole series if you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy film!

Availability:

  • You can go to Toys R Us and buy this set, Now.

Guardians Of The Galaxy – Drax and Korath

Guardians Of The Galaxy – Drax and Korath

Guardians of the Galaxy – Drax and Korath

I couldn’t let this series sit on store shelves.  Hasbro was good enough to send me a few figures…and I’m a completest, so I went out and grabbed the rest of the figures…and I’m really quite happy with the set.  My kids, they are even happier!

Drax

The Good:

  • At this scale, to have this much detail is staggering!
  • Clean lines, good paint application.
  • Included weapons are guaranteed kid fun!

The Bad:

  • As with most of the figures in the set, the weapons included are more of an intrusion for collectors.
  • You can’t holster a dagger.

Korath

The Good:

  • Dead on movie Korath in 2.5 inch scale!
  • Bulky build, he feels the perfect size for the scale.

The Bad:

  • The main complaint that would apply to all in this line is really articulation.

Both

The Rest:

  • For $6 a 2-pack, there is no reason not to grab this whole series if you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy film!

Marvel Universe Custom: Starhawk

Marvel Universe Custom: Starhawk

Marvel Universe Custom Starhawk – TotalToyz

Starhawk comes to us from TotalToyz.

Starhawk, the “One-Who-Knows”, long mystified his teammates with his ability to foresee coming events. In the 1990s Guardians series this was finally explained: he has been reliving his life over and over many times!

Starhawk’s pose was inspired by his illustration in the original Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, drawn by Allen Milgrom!

Starhawk came to me as an absolute shock and for it, I couldn’t be happier or more thankful.  TotalToyz, you are the bees knees!

The Good:

  • Starhawk’s chiseled jaw is perfectly captured!
  • Exceptional fine line detail.
  • The colors, always with the colors.  If you put a drawn piece of paper behind Starhawk you would be hard pressed to tell him apart from the drawings!
  • When I asked TT about a Starhawk custom, my mind spun out of control with ‘how would he even do that?!?!”  The prehensile pieces stretching from his head, from his shoulders to his boots…how?  Mission accomplished in fine form!
  • Always appreciate the custom stand included!

Availability:

  • Keep an eye on TotalToyz  on eBay.  Contact him, beg him, maybe he will make you one for lots and lots of money!!

Minimates: Best Of Marvel Minimates Series 1 – Wolverine and Sabertooth

Minimates: Best Of Marvel Minimates Series 1 – Wolverine and Sabertooth

The Savage Fury and Rage are strong with this pack of figures.  Two of the most vicious characters known to the Marvel Universe are captured at their most iconic in this set.

Wolverine

The Good:

  • Comic perfect, boots to cowl, Wolverine is displayed at the very least, in my absolute favorite outfit of all Wolverine-hood.
  • Of course you can take the cap off and put on awesome Wolverine hair!
  • Claws are sharp and pointy, who doesn’t love that?!
  • Excellent line detail, sharp and clean paint.

The Bad:

  • Love him, I don’t even have something funny bad to say about him.

Sabertooth

The Good:

  • When I think of Sabertooth, this is the one I think of, he looks just like this in my brain, perfectly captured!
  • Chest piece and hair are removable to show a stripped down version of Wolverine’s least best friend.
  • Facial line detail is astonishing and accurate.

The Bad:

  • He’s kinda mean.  Probably not a very nice person.

Both

The Rest:

  • If you love mutants, you love Wolverine, if you love Wolverine, you want to buy this because you get Wolverine and the person he hates most.  That’s a bargain at 10x the price.  Even if that price is a million dollars!

Minimates: Best Of Marvel Minimates Series 1 – Thing and Iron Man

Minimates: Best Of Marvel Minimates Series 1 – Thing and Iron Man

Minimates Best of Series 1 keeps the hits coming with the Thing and Iron Man.  Two absolutely classic, must have characters in a single box, the way we remember them from when we were just lil’ns.

Thing

The Good:

  • Comic perfect molding for all of his rubbly parts.
  • Exceptional coloring, there is no mistaking this iconic character.
  • Chest pieces comes off to reveal…Thing without his chest piece.
  • Headpiece comes off to show that attention to detail was paid all the way to the top of Things Face.

The Bad:

  • You can’t turn him into human Ben Grimm.

Iron Man

The Good:

  • Helmet is removable to show the absolute most classic of Tony Stark face designs, black hair included.
  • Posed hand displaying a fully armed and operational repulsor.
  • Flight stand that fits just right!

The Bad:

  • This classic character is perfectly captured…but not alcohol scented, so that’s a minus.

Both

The Rest:

  • This is a must have set of characters for any Minimates fan.  Unless you have them both already, this is an incredible set to pick up.
