Ultimate Hawkeye – Avengers Comic Line

Ultimate Hawkeye – Avengers Comic Line

Earlier this week we took a look at Ultimate Thor from the Avengers line.  The figure looked great, but moved fairly poorly.  Let’s see how Hawkeye from the same line measures up.

Ultimate Hawkeye

Packaging

We have some nice kid friendly packaging here with a poke through hole on one side so you can touch and feel some of Hawkeye’s firepower.  We have the Avengers line logo styling and standard faire art on the card.

Paint

As the case was with Thor, the paint really shines with Hawkeye.  He looks great, a nice deep purple color.  The paint is even and the highlights are well cared for right down to the styled buckle on the belt.  The hair line is nice and even and the red sits in Hawkeye’s goggles perfectly.

Articulation

I think we are going to find across this line, limited movement, solid torsos, no ankle or wrist movement.  It seems like all of the great action figure advances since 2000 have been largely ignored as far as movement goes with this line.   Very limited head movement, the arms bend at the elbows, legs at the knees.  We have ball / socket hip joints and literally no articulation at all on the torso from neck to hips.  For a figure like Hawkeye this is a pretty big disappointment.

Character Likeness

It looks a hell of a lot like Ultimate Hawkeye.  In spite of the figures short comings, I really can’t hope to have a better representation of the character on my toy shelf.

Accessories

We have the standard kid friendly chunky amounts of pointless blech with Ultimate Hawkeye.  He comes with a pistol grip mini crossbow, two pistols, holsters, and the absurd spring loaded rocket canon that you see pictured.   On the bright side, the cannon has some good range and extra ammo which fits nicely in rocket holsters on the figure back.  Wait…did …no…darn, yeah you can’t remove these holsters and they make the figure a little bulkier than is necessary.  Points off of likeness for this!

Overall

Visually the figure looks great.  Functionally it falls well short of the mark.

Grade

Displayed somewhere I might see it (3 of 5)

Rating System: Each figure will be reviewed under the following categories:
Packaging
Paint
Articulation
Accessories
Character Likeness
Overall: Each figure will then be given an overall grade out of 5 levels:
Displayed front and center – Perfect score
Displayed but more to the side – Second best, nothing wrong with that
Displayed somewhere I might see it – Displayed, it’s good, I like it, not as much as others.
Displayed but buried in the back – Not all that great, but no other options for this figure
Stored* – It’s really not worth displaying.
*This will be caveat-ed, if the figure is excellent but is being moved out in favor of a better version of the same character, this will be explained.
