Firelord and Frankie Raye Nova – Alan Customs

Firelord and Frankie Raye Nova – Alan Customs

Here we have the second and third of the aforementioned Custom Cosmic Three from Alan (onlinebuyer21).  The two figures in this post were commissioned customs requested by me to Alan.  If you are interested, you can contact him through eBay, or let us know here and we can put you in contact with him, to have your own custom figures created.  Alan has already done a Nova, but was a little hesitant to do a Firelord based on potential degree of difficulty.  Not for nothin’ I think he knocked it out of the park anyway.

Paint

Firelord is the right color in all the right places.  Nice bright orange with the faded through boots, reg gloves, sharp lines.  The gold / glow face came out great and there is an excellent level of detail in the paint here.

Articulation

This figure was created out of a Johnny Storm figure.  Alan added the neat little flamey bits.

Character Likeness

Definitely Firelord, the hair could have been a little higher, but I completely understand the limitations of reality.

Accessories

Alan was kind enough to throw in the flame staff, it looks great, and for that! I am thankful!

Overall

Excellent replication of one of Galactus’ fallen heralds.

Grade

Displayed front and center – Perfect score (5 out of 5)

Frankie Raye Nova

Packaging

No packaging.

Paint

I feel like Alan kinda got a fastball right down the middle with this one.  Nova is solid gold…he did that, and well.  Nice solid coat, even, great job!

Articulation

This Nova was made possible by the Dark Phoenix Jean Grey from the Cyclops / Jean Grey 2-pack.

img_7712

Character Likeness

What makes this custom is the hair, and what makes Nova is the hair.  It’s fire, and Alan took something that isn’t solid in reality and made it look great as a solid.  This is Nova! (Frankie Raye)

Overall

As said…I feel like (but have no actual idea) that this was probably an easy one.  That didn’t mean that Alan would let up though. It’s an excellent custom and I am proud to display Nova amongst my Heralds setup.

Displayed but buried in the back – Not all that great, but no other options for this figure
Stored* – It’s really not worth displaying.
*This will be caveat-ed, if the figure is excellent but is being moved out in favor of a better version of the same character, this will be explained.

Quasar – Alan Custom

Quasar – Alan Custom

Welcome to the first and most incredible in a series of 3 custom figures created by our resident custom making genius Alan (onlinebuyer21).  These customs were commissioned by me, I gave Alan some art, the figure parts, and a prayer, and what he came back to me with was pure genius.

Quasar

Packaging

I’m a loose collector, I did not request packaging to be made.  Though, had he made it, I’m sure it would have been awesome.

img_7695

Paint

The bread and butter of any custom, the paint.  Alan did an outstanding job capturing the deep space look of Quasar’s cape.  It’s worth noting here, this is the modern Quasar shown in comics in varying degrees of dark blue on the light side right up through black.  I went for the darker version as that is my preference.
The chest logo is finely detailed, all of the lines are sharp and clean, the wrist bands are sharp and the gold highlighting is epic.

Articulation

Articulation is not really something I am concerned with in a custom, of all my figures these will be touched and moved the absolute least, and generally that’s not at all anyway.  The custom is built off of unequal parts Steve Rogers (head) and Sentry (two-pack) (body / cape).

img_7699

Character Likeness

Alan absolutely nailed the likeness of Quasar (modern) here and darker tones (as requested).

Accessories

Quasar doesn’t have any accessories, but I’ll mention the cape again because it’s gorgeous.

Overall

This custom is brilliant, one of my favorite ever.  Stop reading this, go look at the gallery!

Terrax: Legends Wave 1 2012 BAF

Terrax: Legends Wave 1 2012 BAF

The moment so many 6 inch fans have been salivating over…no wait, maybe I should start that differently…  2012 is going to be a Legendary year and Hasbro is going to make sure of it.  The return of the 6-inch Legends line sees it’s first BAF in Terrax!!  Now, I don’t collect Legends with limited exceptions.  It just so happens that I feel like Terrax at double the size of Marvel Universe figures fits well in scale.  So, I went out of my way to pick up the parts piece meal, and below are the results.

TERRAX

Packaging

Terrax comes packaged in with one to two pieces in each of 6 different wave one 2012 Legends figures.  There are 7 figures in the first wave, but only 6 have BAF pieces.  Thor does not have a BAF piece.  You get a leg each with Klaw and Iron Man, the head and axe with Hope, arms (both) with Ghost rider), Torso and Waist with Steve Rogers and Constrictor.

img_7687

Paint

Terrax looks great, solid color, nice detail, clean lines.  The character in the comics isn’t one of the more crazy detailed heralds of Galactus.  Hasbro does a fine job of capturing this mean SOB in paint.

Articulation

I think what everyone really wants to hear is that his ankles have an incredible range of motion.  He otherwise has a standard range of motion on all parts allowing for good movement and poseability.

img_7689

Character Likeness

This planet killer is far more accurately captured here in figure form than in his original incarnation in the early 90’s.

Accessories

img_7690

Nothing like a good axe, and Terrax has got one of them big ones. Very accurately captured, fits well in his open hand, and looks great in focus!

Overall

If you are a fan of Marvel Cosmic (which I am), then I can safely tell you that Terrax is an absolute must have.  He’s a herald of Galactus and…who cares what else, that isn’t good enough?  Alright fine, he’s built Ford tough has a big axe, and will fit well against your Legend or Universe line figures.
